If you're starting up a team which QB do you take, Brady or Manning?

The guy with all the numbers or the guy with all the rings?

I'd go with Brady. I think if you put Tom in an offense like the Colts and asked him to do what Peyton does, I think he'd do a pretty good job. Plus he's a Bay Area guy, so I gotta go with him.

Brady. Maybe if it weren't for all their head-to-head games in the playoffs and reg season it might be different.... but it is what it is, and it's not even close.

I think Manning runs a more complex offense, and it a better thrower than Brady. However, Brady has a lot of charisma and game-managing skills in him, that Manning seems to lack (especially in the playoffs).

I like Alex Smith, and hope he can be a better version of Brady, but for now, I'd definitely go with Brady.

It'd be interesting to see if Manning could still perform if put into Brady's situation over the last year and a half. Something we'll never know.

It's not all the QB's fault......I have this feeling that Dungy doesn't have the fire to get the team to the SB...he's good at picking talent...but just doesn't have the fire.

Id go with Brady. Before last week i wouldve said Manning, but the way Brady picked apart the Vikings D was just amazing. Not to take anything away from them but look at the receivers hes doing it with. Caldwell, Gabriel, Jackson, Troy Brown and Jabar Gaffney. There arent any spectacular WRs in that group.

While I agree it was amazing, Manning did the same thing to the Denver defense on Sunday, and statisically, the Denver defense had been playing better than the Vikings defense.

I feel the pressure to pick Manning because the national media has annointed him as the second coming, but since I haven't seen him win any big games so far in his career, not even make a Super Bowl with all that talent around him, I think I will go with Brady!

BrentJones84
11-01-2006, 10:48 AM
Hind sight is 20/20 but I think it was more Brady than the D.

Tell that to all the offenses who were much better than the Pats in 2001, but didn't win the SB because they didn't have one of the top defenses in the league that year.

Even in the 2001 SB, Brady was 16 of 27 for 145 yards and one touchdown, which is almost identical to Alex Smith's stats from last Sunday against the Bears.

http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/live/NFL_20061029_SF@CHI

Now, the 2003 & 2004 SB, yes, Brady put up good numbers, but he wouldn't have 3 rings if it wasn't for the D.

Brady is the 3rd best QB ever behind Young and Montana:hide:

Some might argue that Brady is better than Young since he's lead the Pats to 3 SBs.

I'd go with Young tho.

Me, too, since Brady didn't have to play the '92 & '93 Cowboys or the '96 & '97 Packers. I'll give him the '03 Colts, who were bad*ss, but the '01 & '04 Steelers were nowhere near the '90s Dallas or Green Bay teams that kept Young out of 4 winnable Super Bowls.

like those players would play that well without Manning, give me a break. Manning calls the plays and the audibles to make those guys that good.

Brady is also good but something goes into that system that no matter who plays where in NE that they find a stud.
very true....plus the pats have a genuis coach......even tho all of thier super bowl wins were won by 3 points....they seem to always be on top

Great point. Manning has had an excellent offensive line as well as the best receiving core, a great RB, and also a RB that is a great receiving threat. His whole career.

Brady didn't even have that good of a RB until the last Super Bowl they won, and I don't know that any of his WR's crack the Top 15 in the league, despite Branch's performance.

Manning is the engine that makes that machine run, but he has playmakers around him. Marvin Harrison is a top 10 WR in the league anywhere he goes, and thats a biased opinion because I share the notion with you that Manning makes him better than he is. It's also not often that his 0-line lets anyone through. Not to mention Reggie Wayne would be a legit #1 on most teams in the league.

Completely dependent on the system I wanted to run and the location of the team.
Brady
Cold climate and outdoors
Strong OC presence and only needing QB imput at urgent times
Very System oriented

Manning
Small Market team (he reduces the need for a high priced OC)
Indoors Dome or warm climate without wind
Freelancing offense thats fluid

I'd pick Brady most likely because he is more consistant in the year and I'd rather have all average to above average games rather than 13 great ones and 3-5 Stinkers.

But really its a win win situation that ANY HC would love to have!

Peyton has a good o-line. Everyone saw what happened when someone like merriman or Joey Porter play against the colts. Last year was the year the Colts should have won yet they found a way to screw it up and the first mannning does is throw his o-line under the bus.

This is like saying who's better Montana or Marino...Rings against stats

Brady never put up 55 points in a Super Bowl.

But really, Brady earned his 2003 and 2004 ring.

In 2001, he was much like Ben was last year, a QB who didn't goof while the defense did most of the work. In the 2001 Super Bowl, Brady threw for as many yards and TDs as Alex did last Sunday against the Bears.

i think Brady is the most overrated player in the NFL

Ace Matherton
11-03-2006, 03:30 PM
If you want to go that way then the entire NFL is overrated.
Posted before the Manning game:

Denver’s D has faced no real challenge this year in an offensive opponent. Oak, Cle, KC, and Balt all rank in the bottom 8 for offenses and have no run game so to speak of allowing Bailey and co the opportunity to play soft and ball hawk. They played STL the first game of the season when Bulger and CO had to learn a new system and they were not cohesive as a unit. New England is not even in the top half of NFL offenses and really is one dimensional this year.
So you have 6 teams none of whom have any legit offense, and save for NE none of the O lines are that good either. 3 of them have crappy QB's who cant move the ball, and not one of them has more than one decent receiver

Saying they are overated isnt a spur of the moment attention getter. Their schedule has been soft, their line has taken advantage of weak opposing lines and they've been fortunate on some plays. I'm not saying they are a bad D but they are not one of the NFL's top 5.

Denver D = OVERATED!

I was thinkin I was the only one who thought that...

Don't get me wrong, they have a bad *** core of LB's, the best CB in football (Champ Bailey), another very good corner in Darrent Williams, and a mean safety in John Lynch, but I don't think their D is comparable to SD, CHI, or BAL. Or Pittsburgh when they are all healthy.

Manning is the best QB in the NFL and will go down as the best QB in NFL history.

In terms of QB traits (arm strength, accuracy, no huddle, decision making) and stats, your right, he probably will.

But in terms of who you want leading your team in a high magnitude game, he doesn't even break the top 10.

Tom Brady has a fantastic 0-line too, but his skill players don't even compare to what the Colts have.

The ironic thing about what he pulled in the playoffs last year was that he was the one that is taking the credit for calling all the audibles, all the adjustments in protection, yet it was the lines fault for lettin the blitz come thru untouched.

I take the better QB in Manning...

I'm not saying Brady didn't lead his team, but coaching, game plan, the system and players around him have to count for something.

Manning is a better QB...no doubt, better arm, better vision...better.

But overall its obvious they are very close, im just saying I'd take the better QB.

(this was on Mike & Mike in the Morning yesterday, Golic picked Manning for the same reasons I would)

You don't need to win to be a great QB...Football is a team sport and a lot of the times its just not fair...

so far Tom Brady = Joe Montana and Peyton Manning = Dan Marino (prob better)

but thats not a knock on Manning, he still has 10 years left...to prove people that he can win a Super Bowl (but I don't think that should matter.)

Nilsen31
11-04-2006, 12:31 AM
So it doesn't matter that Peyton Manning has played bad in crucial playoff games, ones where you can't exactly blame his team?

well, I would hope he would snap out of it...

and its only been a few instances...

but yea...if he had done something like that like all 10 games hes played that were big...i'd probably take Brady.

This isnt even hard. It's Berrrrady. He's the closest thing to Joe I have seen.

Manning has been way too high strung for the playoff pressure. But I do sense a "maturing" from him this year. Adversity taken as the greatest learning tool. If his defense does not totally betray him, I think we may see another vintage Indy/New England conference champioinship. It will be like the Niners and the Cowboys.

Now I'm going to  .
