View Full Version : Names for new stadium

All this stadium talk got me wondering. What would the new name for it be? Barring any corporations buying the naming rights (I don't even know how long Monster Cable has the rights for), what do you think would be a good name?
Montana Park? Rice Stadium in Santa Clara? Ronnie Lott Arena?
Just throwin' a few out.

Some Corporation will most likely get the name for the Stadium. With all the High Tech companies surrounding the South Bay, there should be quite a few offers.
Intel
Google
IBM
AMD
Yahoo
Cisco
Apple
eBay
etc....

The name will be based on the SPONSOR the owner chooses to represent the stadium...
It's all about :money: these days......
EDIT: Raiderhater beat me to it.......I also see it being one of the silicon valley hubs.....

unfortunately they will probably sell the naming rights to help pay for the stadium but it would have been cool to honor past greats.
Maybe just Legends stadium would have been good to incorporate all the niner greats

It's going to be a corporate name. That's just how things are now.... But Rice Stadium sounds kind of funny. People would think, "Is this stadium full of rice? Do they make rice there? Is this a historical museum of rice?" :clapping:

LOL.. Right on..
They will get some crazy bids in from all kinds of companies.
If you think about it. I have to give props to the owners of "The Pink Taco". They had to of known that the Cardinals were not going to name it after their company. At the same time, the Cards had to at least acknowledge their bid. Which is a Great advertisement for Pink Taco.
Reminds me of when Eazy-E accidently received an invitation to a Republican's party. He says, there was hysteria when he showed up. He said later, "Basically what I did was pay 1500 dollars for a Million Dollars worth of Press."

Cisco Stadium would have been perfect since it is right in their area; Cisco buildings surround where the stadium will be in Santa Clara.
However, Cisco Systems evidently donated the land for the new A's ballpark in Fremont, so it will be named Cisco Park.
I doubt Cisco will donate land to the 49ers, too. Santa Clara (not sure if it's City or County) owns most of the land around Great America and where the 49ers Facility are located--maybe even the Golf Course, too adjacent to the Santa Clara Soccer Field (which is next to the 49ers).
Apple Park or Yahoo Park would sound OK, I think--if they would donate heavily to the 49ers. I think it would be great to name it 49ers Memorial Stadium to honor all past players who donate $1 million or more. Busts of the donors could be scattered around the stadium in designated places. I think funds should come from past players, coaches, and fans--as well as corporate sponsors.
For donors giving say $20,000, there could be a large bronze plaque with their names inscribed on it and placed in a very conspicuous location where everyone could see it.
Wouldn't it be nice if fans donating $1,000 could have a brass nameplate on a seat somewhere in the stadium honoring them?
I'm happy to have the stadium in Santa Clara. I'm not sure exactly where it would be situated though I know exactly where Tasman and Great America are. That's where the SC Convention Center and the Hilton Hotel are.
Maybe a few big sponsors could donate under the umbrella moniker of Silicon Valley Sports Stadium...Maybe that's not exciting, but its very appropriate!
What ideas do YOU have for fund raising?

Sorry Niner Mom that sounds too much like a PSL for fans to "donate" $1000. It is a sad day for the City of San Francisco that they would not work to help the 49ers in the city. I wounder if they will turn Candelstick back in to the city dump.

Roofs and fake grass suck, natural grass and open-air is the only way to play. :trophy:That's very true....but we can keep it OPEN for football games and closed on concerts and stuffs. I view an-all-purpose stadium for sports, concerts, assemblies and stuffs that would make the stadium more attractive for investors and for the city to be able to have a wider support more than football in itself.
But I concur with your ideas forever etched into my memories of Offensive Steve Wallace and Bubba Paris making mud angels and playing in the mud during the 1989 NFC championships!

If you change the city, than you may as well change the name. My choice would be the "Santa Clara Earthquakes" in honor of the former MLS and NASL franchises. That way, the logo on the helmet wouldn't look idiotic. Of course, they could always bring back that failed helmet design from the eighties.

It just goes to show how stupid politicians can be. I'm sure it's just a scare tactic (which if York is smart enough will see through it) but SF would be losing alot of revenue if Newsome forced them to change their name. They would be losing alot of future advertising revenue. I know Gavin Newsome knows this and that's why I think it's nothing more then a scare tactic.
