View Full Version : 49ers Homeless after 2008

If this move continues the 49ers will likley be homeless after 2008. San Francisco and their lease with the 49ers is up after 2008 however the 49ers plan to leave in 2012. So for the 4 years between 2008 and 2012 the 49ers might be homeless. Why would San Francisco want to renew the lease for just another four years. So John York might have shot himself in the foot here. Sell the team John.

Yes he did and there are so many groups that want to lease the Stick like? and we can't forget?. The City of San Francisco is the ones who have shot their feet off all of the way. those 10 times a year that the 49ers are there the City of San Francisco makes a lot of money. When you think of the price for a beer there is tap or cap fee that gets paid to the city. Parking $25 X how many cars? Most of the money goes back into the parks and rec budget which helps out the whole city. They won't tell the people this. Just like the name rights the money that the city got for selling the name to Monster is for use at the Stick which in turn freed money up in the parks and rec budget for all of the other parks and rec projects in San Francisco. I am starting to belive that the Niners played the Santa Clara card (which we all new about when they did the new stadium talk this last spring/summer). I hope it works makes the city play ball with the Niners like they did with the Giants.

I got some room in my backyard for them. I'll have to move the dog and maybe some trash cans but they can play here. I scored lots of touchdowns in my backyard so I know there is room.

In the lease there are extension opportunities.

Oh and uhhh...shot in the foot? It's a mere call to Stanford University, who would probably take us in for 2 years until the new stadium is built. Think about the added revenue they'd get, especially in a down year for the Stanford Cardinals football team.

They could also come down south for a few seasons. We'll give them back I swear.

I'm not one that cares where they play as long as the organization and memories are in tact and embraced.
However, I'd prefer Santa Clara (the shorter Southern move) because it still gives me the oppurtunity to stay actively involved with the team, attend games, and watch practices. Something I wouldn't get the chance to do if they moved to L.A. Even though I consider L.A. my home away from home. :hyper:

I say we just get the stadium done in San Francisco and not worry about moving.

Yeah but the City would probably not want to negotiate an extension for just four years, knowing they were not going to re-negotiate after that which would put the Niners without a home.

Nada? Zilch?
Jeeze I certainly hope SF city fathers are not that petty. Would they really do that to their constituents? Force them to accept fewer services? Make cut backs, lay off police officers, firemen, close parks and libraries - just to make a point with the Niners?
I certainly hope not.

4 years in a college stadium would be embarrassing. I could see one or two years but not four.

My sentiments exactly and in addition, a poster here mentioned optional extension of lease rights. So I'm sure the 49ers will use it to their advantage after the lease does expire.

The 49ers have 3 four year options so this is a dead subject.

The Jaguars have been in a college stadium since 1995. The AZ Cardnals were in one up to this season. If it is while the new stadium is built I do not think anyone would have a problem with that. We could always go across the bay, it's not like they have a pro football team anyway:falldownlaugh:

Monster is right about the option to renew but I think it’s a 5 year option.

Screw SF and the crappy stadium options they bring. Santa Clara will be a much better stadium.

As for selling the team - how about to somebody with deep enough pockets where he can build a stadium on the loose change he has in his sofa. ;)

You mean like Paul Allen who payed less out of his deeeep pockets than York plans to? Or the Giants and Jets combined, who are splitting the cost of their new stadium, yet are still receiving help from their city with the cost of infristructure...

I've been out of the Bay Area for a while, did Stanfoo change stadiums? I remember the stadium as seating like 80-90,000, they held SB XIX there and the Niners played there after the Loma Prieta quake.
