"Ravens edge closer to getting vet QB… It seems a little like putting the cart before the horse, but Baltimore has reportedly worked out a contract in principle with Tennessee QB Steve McNair. The Ravens are trying to acquire McNair from the Titans who drafted former Texas QB Vince Young with the 3rd pick overall at last weekend’s draft. The deal would pay McNair a signing bonus of $11 million, along with a base salary of $1 million in 2006. The Titans are willing to trade McNair to the Ravens, however, the two sides couldn’t agree on compensation at the draft with the Ravens reportedly offering a 5th round draft pick while the Titans were reportedly asking for fourth-rounder. Tennessee reportedly would like to hang onto McNair until they can get their asking price, but may find that their hand is forced sooner rather later. Tennessee, for example, would like to sign a veteran CB, especially after backup corner Michael Waddell suffered a knee injury last week which will sideline him for 4-6 months. The Titans reportedly would like to sign Ty Law for insurance at CB, but have also spoken with 49ers’ free agent Ahmed Plummer, however, they are so cap-strapped that they can’t sign anyone without clearing some space and McNair and his $23M salary cap figure are their prime targets. Then there is a May 16th hearing at which McNair’s grievance against the Titans for barring him from working out with the team will be heard. McNair is hoping that he will be declared a free agent if the ruling goes his way."

I can't beleive the Titans are going to cut there ties with McNair. :nonono:

All the pre-draft hype on Vince Young was that he was the best athlete of the 3 QBs, but was also the biggest project and would need the most time.

When the Titans drafted Young, that should mean for sure McNair would be the Titans QB for this season to mentor Young along.

I really don't think they want to. It is a :money: issue. It is the same reason we could not keep JP.

Here is the thing i don't understand how is it that 1 player counts as 23million against the cap. I thought his salary was only supposed to be 10 milllion and a 1 million bonus or some such. So i am kinda confused... and how does releasing him / trading him help their cap... i thought they still had to take the cap hit.

Haha, serves them right for beating us
:falldownlaugh:

Seriously though, that was the opposite of what they should have done, the Titans will suck this year, in part because of this, and they screwed their chances of having the best mentor for young and a great leader and player

Tiz, you must be excited that Baltimore looks like it won't suck so much this year :falldownlaugh:
