You know you've got a team ready to play for you when they complain about practices that are too tough when they don't even have pads on. Marinelli is going to be in for a long season if this is how things are working. The team got soft under Mariucci who is far from a taskmaster with players and now they have a coach who realize they need to play hard to win. You can't blame him either. With Chicago likely to sport an anemic offense, Minnesota is lacking the playmakers on offense, and Green Bay is just a problem roster all around. If the Lions actually put together their talent on offense and played tough defense they could be a surprise to push for the wild-card or even the division. Unfortunately for them they can't even run around in shorts for a few days without complaining.
These are the types of problems we used to have but have been getting better at avoiding.

I'm sure Nolan's player's meetings work to respond to player input and keep things in-house. I think Nolan runs a pretty **** good ship! :sflogo:

Not too pile on Mooch too much more, but I always thought losing was too comfortable under him as well. Just, "Golly, but we gave such a swell effort guys. See you next year..." He's a nice guy, but never exuded the "you'd really rather die on the field than come off as losers" vibe... You don't need to be a flaming jerk, but second rate should never be comfortable.

This is the same thing that happened with AZ Coach Green's first year there and we've seen what's happened with that other wise talented team since...
Things like this make me respect the niners roster more than ever as you don't hear the complaints from the players regarding the rigorous practices.
Continuing on with their 33% ish winning percentage first established in 1990? Because winning one-in-three is pretty much where they've been. A little up, a little down, but pretty much 1-in-3.

On a secondary note...with the difficulty and hard hitting type practices Marninelli will have....how many games/months before Ernie Sims career is over? (I am not wishing this on him, but all indications give him 1 more concussion before he is done)

In my opinion, the Lions went soft :chicken: under Marty Mornhinweg if not prior to him, and Mooch just never changed the soft attitude.
The Lions have been so disfunctional for so many years, they're going to have to flip the entire roster in addition to all the coahcing changes to get that team turned around.
How Matt Millen keeps his job is beyond me.

No kidding... try this guy to have an attitude on his own players.

I know he was a Niner but I don't think Detroit will ever amount to anything till Millen is gone.
He is a very poor GM in my opinion.
Sims instead of Cutler or Leinart?
Should have been fired on the spot for that.

yeah and it wouldn't make sense to get a QB this year as they would have had to trade up to get one.
They signed Kitna and Mccown from AZ.
Kitna is a decent QB and Mccown showed some good flashes last year and is
young enough to be a franchise QB for a lotta years if he picks up on Martz' system.
They weren't in dire need of a QB
They could have had Leinart or Cutler without trading up, the only QB off the board at thier pick, #9 was Young.
But after bringing in McCown for the future, and Kitna for now, QB was not a pressing need, especially after the disastrous Joey show, why spend the money that a top 10 pick QB would recieve?
Make do with what you have first.
In my opinion, never draft a QB in the first round, too expensive.

They're my pick for worst team in the league and the model example of why drafting players with character matters. A terribly run organization for many years now. We'd better beat em.
