Alright folks, here it is! ......uh, yeah......Anyway I'd like some input from my esteemed colleagues (yeah, that's you!) about this, my 2006 mock draft. Keep in mind that alot of these picks are based on rumors and rumblings I've heard from coaches at the Senior Bowl, and from players themselves. I strongly believe that we will draft quite a few players we coached at the Senior Bowl because...DUH...that's why we went there in the first place!

First off, I think we'll trade a 6th & 7th rounder for another 5th rounder, simply because we have a stockpile of 6th & 7th rounders that we can afford to move up for a higher quality player. So, without further ado:

Pick #6: Vernon Davis - TE, Maryland. This is the pick I think is the hardest to predict. Davis has drawn alot of interest, and may not be available at #6. However, if he's there, we can't pass up a playmaker of his ability. If not, look for us to trade down a few slots, and target Manny Lawson, Kamerion Wimbley, or even Broderick Bunkley.

Pick #22: Thomas Howard - OLB, U.T.E.P. This pick may be a little controversial, but I think Howard has a much bigger upside than any other OLB available at this pick. He ran a 4.42 second 40 yard dash at the combine, where he also bench-pressed 225 pounds 21 times. He's gotten bigger and stronger every year in college, and he has the size to put on more bulk (6'3" tall, 239 pounds). Howard showed at the Senior Bowl that he can easily cover tight ends, though he needs a little work on his coverage technique. Bottom line, you can't teach size and speed, and Howard has both. He has a small-school mentality, which shows up in his willingness to be coached. I think Singletary can turn Howard into the prototypical 3-4 OLB within two seasons. Also, if we can't get Vernon Davis at #6, look for DeAngelo Williams or Marcedes Lewis at this pick.

Pick #84: Roman Harper - S, Alabama. Quite simply, this guy is a player. He was all over the field at the Senior Bowl, and made it hard for Nolan & Company to ignore his starting potential. It's possible that Harper will be gone before our 3rd round selection, so Marcus Hudson and Greg Blue may be good alternatives. Regardless, any of those three players have the ability to start at the pro level, which is important since SF needs starter from it's first 4 round picks.

Pick #100: Parys Haralson - DE, Tennessee. Yep, this is the guy that got ejected from the Senior Bowl. You gotta love someone who won't take any crap from an offensive lineman. There are several smallish defensive ends in this draft who can make the transition to linebacker, but I think Haralson has the best chance. Why? Well, if you watched him at the combine, he was extremely quick on his feet. But what impressed me the most was his ability to cut. Out of all the defensive ends I watched, Haralson was the best at changing direction, and that translates well to 3-4 outside linebacker.

Pick #140: Garrett Mills - FB, Tulsa. This is the pick that makes this draft a huge success. Mills really impressed Nolan at the Senior Bowl, and could provide Alex Smith another weapon out of the backfield. As a very successful former tight end, Mills could very easily start at fullback for the Niners next season. That would make 4 starter with the first 4 draft picks.

Extra 5th Round Pick: Travis Williams - OLB, Auburn. I think the Niners will trade up into the 5th round to select Williams. He's a little undersized, but will make an excellent backup and special teams player. Singletary really liked this guy at the Senior Bowl, and Williams didn't diappoint during the game.

Pick #192: Marvin Philip - C, California. When your pro-bowl center tells you he likes a guy, and he wants to mentor him as his replacement, you go out and get him! Nuff said!

Pick #236: Albert Toeaina - OT, Tennessee. Rumor had it that Norv Turner liked this guy. He may not be an elite offensive tackle, but at 6'6" and 355 pounds, how could you pass up this mauler?

Pick #254: Fred Evans - DT, Texas State. Honestly, I don't know much about this guy, but he did visit Santa Clara. He looks like a solid 3-4 defensive end, and our interest in this guy may be a sign that we're not targetting defensive end very high in this draft. Having said that, I also wouldn't be surprised if we traded down and targetted Broderick Bunkley in the 1st round.

I'd also love to sign these undrafted free agents:

Chris Barclay - RB, Wake Forest. Very productive back who might be worth a look.

Anthony Trucks - OLB/S, Oregon. Undersized linebacker with a high motor who could contribute on special teams, and maybe more.

Naufahu Tahi - FB, B.Y.U. This guy is an excellent receiver out of the backfield who bench-pressed 225 pounds 35 times at the combine. Might compete for a starting job at fullback.

There you have it! Fire away!

I really like Howard as well, he would make for a much more versatile player at OLB. Roman Harper I think could be a great player but if not he could be a great leader on the field and in the locker room. Haralson could make for a great rotational rusher.

I like it. Preferably Wimbley, Carpenter or Lawson over Howard, but if they are gone I would be fine with that. Like the Roman Harper pick a lot.

I like Pat Watkins at FS but I like Roman Harper better.
