Wow. Everything rides on this next game against Arizona for us. It is going to be interesting to see how our young team handles that kind of pressure, knowing that this is the biggest game of the year and the biggest game the 49ers have had in years and they are a part of it.

Man… It is only Tuesday and I am already fired up about this game. :wild:

Thats the division picture only. St Louis and Green Bay can't win their divisions.

The wildcard scenarios aren't here and are too complicated. In some cases, the tiebreakers would come all the way down to strength of victory, whcih can't be determined yet.

True dat.

Meanwhile we have to root for the Vikes to beat Green Bay next thursday. :yikes: And of course we must win our own game against 'zona.

As I've already said I'm not ready to start worrying about other games until our boys show me they can hold up their end and win.

But for reference, here are some of the easier to figure out wild card scenarios for the NFC:

If Philidelphia wins another game, they are guaranteed at least a wild card berth (division tiebreaker over Giants). They can win the division, but if so, Dallas is already guaranteed a wild card.

Atlanta gets a wild card berth if they win both their games. This is because either Philidelphia or New York will have a worse record than 9-7, or if all 3 are at 9-7, Philidelphia will eliminate New York from the tiebreaker before New York's head to head vs Atlanta will count.

If the Giants win both their games, and Atlanta loses one or Philidelphia loses both, the Giants get a wildcard.

Any of those teams can also possibly win a wildcard at 8-8, but it gets infinitely more complicated.

The easier knock out scenarios for the 49ers for the wild card.

If we lose a game, we can't get a wild card
If GB wins out, we can't get a wild card.
If the Giants win one more game, we can't get a wild card. They out-tiebreak us and the only way that won't matter is if Philly knocks them out of a 3 way race, but we lose a 3 way race to Philly anyway.

After that, the picture gets downright weird. At a tie at 8-8, St Louis is irrelevant to us. We get down to the common opponent/strength of victory stage against Atlanta/Carolina.

The really odd one is that if we are in a 2-way tie at 8-8 with Minnesota, we win the tiebreaker, but if Minnesota, us , and either Atlanta or Carolina is in a 3 way tie at 8-8, Minnesota gets the wild card.

That isn't any different from last year for these boards... it doens't mean they'll lose on purpose.
