View Full Version : I think we have to trade up..

I was looking at the 06 draft and two things stuck out like a sore thumb. One pick before us in the third round, FS anthony smith was taken ahead of us. One pick before us in the fourth round, max-jean gillies, a monster Guard, was taken before us. Both were results of trade ups- from pittsburgh, and then philly. Both of these players are going to be great and we ended up with michael robinson and brandon williams.

Im not saying the guys we picked are total washouts. But, so far, this season they have not done anything. Will they in the future? Quite possibly. But it wouldnt hurt to have our FS and some extra O-line depth locked up..

We have to trade up this year in case it happens again. Its pretty unlikely that it would happen twice to the same team, but if a prospect is falling that we have our eyes on, and there is even a SMALL shot that some other team is eyeing them, we need to trade up and get that prospect. We can not afford to lose out on talent. Just think about it. FS anthony smith and a monster G...we could focus on WR and RB this season. Even with those guys, although not their fault, we still have to focus on WR and RB (backup)..as well as FS and possible G depth. Anyways, back on topic, do you think we should trade up if that kind of situation occurs once again?

I don't think we need to trade up at all. We will have a great player where we're picking and we really can't afford to waste draft picks to move up.

Also, I think Michael Robinson is going to end up being a really key part of our team. He's such a versatile weapon, we WILL find a way to get him more involved.

max-jean gilles hasnt even started a game so I dont get your point. Anyway, we can fix our fs spot with a guy like landry or nelson so its not a big loss. I'd take nelson over anthony smith anyday of the week.

Robinson wasnt a need for us but a safety was and Bing woulda been a good pick in that spot...

Hasn't bing been converted to linebacker? I don't think he's been on the field much this year.

For a 4th round pick, I think Michael Robinson has been a pretty darn valuable contribution this season.

As far as who I'd like to see us take with our 1st round pick, I'm on the Reggie Nelson bandwagon. I need to find more film on Alan Branch though!!!

Be sure to find film of him from 04 and 05 because he played DE and was very impressive. This year he played DT which isn't where he would play if he came to San Francisco.

IF Calvin Johnson falls to 9, which I doubt I think we would take him without blinking an eye. I know we need some impact players on D, but Johnson w/Gore, Battle, Bryant, Davis, EJ, M-Rob and Alex Smith gives our offense that extra jolt. IF we can land Briggs/Clements/ADThomas or Freeney/ADTHomas/CLements most of us won't cry w/Calvin Johnson being a niner.:sflogo:

That's true. We also didn't take Colston in the 1st, and look at HIS stats. Our front office is a bunch of fools....

THE DRAFT IS A CRAP SHOOT!!!

I agree we don't need to trade up. This draft is filled with great defensive players at all positions so we can pick up quality players late in rounds. If were going to get anyone on offensive early on it better be some linemen so Alex has some more time especially when we play good defensive teams. If they do pick up a receiver I would say it would be through free agency and not the draft, and as long as Antonio Bryant does not screw up next year we don't need one. And YES M-Rob will have more plays next year as long as Nolan allows him to be in the offensive playbook, cause Gore can't handle this workload every year or we're going to lose him.

We got a lot of picks, truely, we don't need that many 3rd and 4th round picks. It looks like there is goin to be good talent comin out in this years draft, and even just 1 extra 1st round pick could go a long ways.

As for Michael Robinson... he just isn't gettin the snaps, thats all. Like it's been said, you can't just give a RB 3-4 touches a game and wonder why he's not doin big things.

Brandon Williams is just lookin like a bad pick at this point.

I think we have more picks than we plan to carry on the roster/practice squad. I'm sure Scot and Mike will sit down, and come up with a number for how many players they want to come out of this draft with...so, I'd be willing to bet we trade up one or two times. No point in bringing in more TC fodder, we need guys who can, and will play.

The price is too high to get another first rounder. While it would be nice to get another first round pick, here is what we would have to give up: our 2nd round pick (480 draft value points) plus our 3rd round pick (210), and a 4th rounder (96,80,50) to equal a first round pick. The information posted by Mancans shows our picks and draft value points as well as the link to the site.

http://www.nfldraftblitz.com/pick_value_chart.htm

If we do trade up, I say let go of one 4th round pick plus both our 5th and 6th rounders to get another 3rd round pick. That would give us 4 first day picks and two quality 4th rounds where talent is still to be found.

Man, I am looking forward to the draft. Go 9ers. Playoffs in 2007.
