I think the title of the article speaks for itself! How do you like them apples? Don't say I didn't warn all you SF haters who were convinced Santa Clara could pull this off.

getting interesting. SF is seeing opportunity, Santa Clara is going to try and find options. Things are really gonna start to heat up.

sounds to me like a unsafe site. A toxic site with soft sediments is a terrible place to build especially since SF is right on the San Andreas fault. Personally, I feel like it could be a catastrophy waiting to happen....but its nice to know they are still talking.

A Superfund site is a great idea, and I am sure with the level of engineering we are at today that his site can be made more than suitable.

It looks nice but I don't see any viable access roads in the mock up. I know that access into the current 'Monster' park is a pain especially after games. Hunters Point is even further from Highway 101 and I don't see any major roads leading from the Highway to Hunters Point. Is anybody familiar with this area? Is there good access? It was a naval yard so you would think there would be some good roads.

The new location would allow better ferry service from across the bay. Fans from the East Bay and Marin may find it easier to get to the park by boat than by car. I really like the ferry pier at AT&T.

In terms of mass transit and roads, the shipyard has been closed for quite some time, so new avenues of traffic will have to be built. I'm not familiar enough with the site to make any more comments than that.

Actually the clean up has already begun. The site has sat empty for years and much of the most difficult work is already complete. As for not building on ex-military sites, how many bases have been converted to residential areas? I can think of at least two in the Bay Area alone. If it is not possible to remove those toxins from the military bases do you honestly think they would have families and the general public moving on to that land?

The 280 freeway is close to there as well. I am sure the infastructure plans would include access to both 101 and 280.

Sounds like a well-conceived plan. I'm looking forward to taking the ferry to the games from the east bay.

One of the good things about the hunters point site is that the navy is paying to have it cleaned but the federal movement will also pay for a ton of the renovation. They have that toxic waste renovation fun that sites that apply for so part of the costs for the parks and even part of the stadium ground work can be taken from that.

Looks like it could end up being a really cool place even with out the stadium but lets hope th 49ers stay. It's still a goo dpossibilty with all of the issues the great america site is proving to have as ar sa funding.

When it comes to business, my personal observations regarding how quickly a company or the government will move on issues that involve spending money can be summed up as follows:

If it will make money they can't wait. If it won't make money, they'll take all the time in the world.

So the City of San Francisco and Lennar Corp., since it would benefit, is eager to expend money and move forward. The Government, on the other hand, sees it as money going out with no return to them, will not be in a rush to speed things up.

Here's the team's statement. Basically, Santa Clara is still the primary option but they are pleased that SF still has interest.

what they should do is name streets ( at least 5 ) after players and debartalo.. presumably montana clark rice lott and walsh. also have a statue or park erected for the team or a player.

also for whoever has lived in san francisco, i know that candlestick was built on landfill but question

What was around the area before the stick was ever constructed??

if anybody knows that would mean alot to me thank you

Sorry, given the history San Francisco's efforts regarding the present stadium is reason enough to reject any deal of which the city is to be part of! PERIOD!!!!!!Can someone explain what happened in 1992 with the proposed Giants ballpark in Santa Clara?

I do know it got done in San Francisco, and it is one of the best ballparks in the land!! Can't get a view like that from the Great America parking lot.....

With Lennar and the city of SF unveiling their proposal as early as they did, I think they may have given Santa Clara even more motivation to become flexible with their utility fund hike. Also, it may have given the SC voters that extra shot of urgency to vote yes on rate increases, knowing that if they defeat the vote, SF could wind up taking the team back.

Maybe, or they could see that SF is willing to give much more than SC and not decide to put up all the money to do the research.

Vote yes on rate increases? As much as I would like to see the new stadium built, I don't think so. If it ever gets on the ballot, I'm certainly not going to vote for a 16% rate increase just to bring the team to Santa Clara.
