I don't understand that. He's clearly starting to lose a step; not to say he isn't still one of the better TE's in the game, but his decline is starting and I'd say only has 2 decent years left in him.

Declining? No way. 2 years left? No way.

Hes a consistent 70+ catch guy whos a very good red zone threat. You also have to keep in mind that he is their passing game. Eddie Kennison is a good WR but hes nothing special. Hes certainly not demanding double teams and most of his big plays result from the safety/LB jumping to Gonzalez and leaving Kenninson.

Gonzalez is the 2nd best TE in the league and arguably the best.

I concur, any one saying he isnt the second best TE in the league is nuts. 2 years at this years production would make KC thrilled because even after 3 years of declining abilities he's still going to be in the top half of TE's. Apart from Gates no other TE can take over a game with receptions so consistantly, and with Gonzo you really dont have to worry about injury or him blowing a blocking assignment.

The article doesn't say how much the contract is for, so it's hard to judge if it makes sense or not.

I had a feeling he would remain a Cheif and wouldn't end up in Green Bay or another team. He's too much of their franchise to let him get away.

i agree. Gonzo is a very good blocker and when the team has trouble blocking the just leave Gonzo in to take care of it. yes it kills the passing game but he is alot better then a RB and sometimes o-lineman trying to block a defender.

anyone have word on how much the extension is?
Maybe they should've used him to block the Colts D-Linemen in their previous game more.

With the lack of weapons they have, they were forced to send him out on routes later in the game. At the begining he was blocking. The announcers made that point clear as day.
