Team needs were mostly on the offensive side of the ball. I managed to put together a solid OL; got two rocket armed QBs to compete with each other; massively upgraded the RB position; and while my WR corps doesn't have the 'wow' factor, they have their roles: Johnson is the deep threat, Moore the red-zone/jump ball target, and Steve Smith the possession guy, Whitted is a burner, and Gabriel has his moments; the TE position was overhauled, and I brought in some blockers who can still catch.

On defense, not much needed to be done. I was able to parlay Asomugha's one good season into a QB/RB/G trade; Grant brings savvy to the FS position, Gamble brings more playmaking ability than Asomugha, Thomas Davis upgrades my SSL position, and the DL has rotating role players with sack happy NT Sapp as the ring-leader. Overall, this unit just needed some fine tuning, and it got it.

Nothing needed to be touched on the special teams...although Treu lost out in a numbers game, and Grove will take on LS duties, which won't be new to him anyway.

New England needed to get Tom Brady some clutch receivers, and Battle fits the bill. He was among the league leaders in converting 3rd downs into 1sts with his receptions, and is a top-notch run blocker at the position. Jason Hill brings superior route-running, and great hands on board. We took a flyer on speedster Devard Darling in hopes he'll finally show development in his 4th season. RB and TE stays solid. Savvy rookie QB John Beck was brought on to push or pass Matt Cassel (who's no slouch) on the depth chart, and has a lot of the qualities coach is looking for in a QB. OL was left alone to develop. Those guys are still young and finding their rythym, who am I to mess with that, although stealing Heyer late in the draft doesn't hurt.

Defense was pretty obvious were the focus was needed. Seau and Bruschi are playing checkers in the retirement home, and Colvin has never been a consistent producer in NE, so he was shipped off in favor of Adalius Thomas. Tackling machine Bishop and coverage backer Harris were brought in to man the middle, and Vrabel will return to lead this group. Up-and-coming Banta-Cain will rotate in on passing downs to terrorize your QB. Revis happened to be BPA when we went on the clock in round one, and met a need in the secondary for CB/S depth and as a return specialist. The DL remains intact, and is one of the best in the league. Besides the obvious talent at the three starting positions, NE returns sack artist Jarvis Green and surprise stud Mike Wright, who filled in admirably for Wilfork during his injury in '06.

Special teams were already solid, and Revis adds return depth.

The Miami Dolphins started the offense as a team in transition. They have a lot of skill, but had been prone to awful season starts the last few years and have suffered from inconsistency at the quarterback position. Perhaps a larger concern though, is that the Dolphins excellent defense was beginning to get older and needed replenishment

What we have achieved over this offseason is the following. We drafted the best pass rushing defensive end in the draft in Gaines Adams, and a large playmaking corner. We got a massive in-line blocker for the run game in Manuel Ramirez and an exciting talent in receiver Paul Williams.

On the trade front, we acquired quality depth at cornerback, and added youth at DT in Jimmy Kennedy, a former first who was a slow starter but has begun to come into his own. But the signature acquisition of this offseason is QB Eli Manning. While the jury is out on just how good he will be, he is a proven quality starter in this league, and the first real long term solution the Dolphins have had at the position since Marino retired.

All of this was accomplished without giving up a single starting player (without getting a better replacement), and despite only starting with 6 selections.

The Kansas City Chiefs are a playoff team, and one with some excellent playmakers. But they began with offseason in transition from offensive powerhouse to all-around franchise.

My goal with this team was to start a much needed youth movement and ensure the franchise's future while at the same time enhancing the team's current on-field product. This I accomplished in spades. Instead of rebuilding or retooling, this team just falt out got better, and happened to get younger at the same time.

The offensive line used to be the foundation of this Chiefs squad, but retirement and age was catching up with the team. Willie Roaf had retired. John Welbourn came back from his retirement but may not play long. Will Shields was wavering on the brink of retirement and no longer a force. Newcomers at tackle like Kyle Turley and Jordan Black could charitably be described at underachieveres. So the Chiefs made sure to draft their next wave of top linemen. Tony Ugoh was drafted to play LT and will shift there eventually, but the addition of skilled veteran Luke Petitgout will allow him to start out at RT. Arron Sears can start right away at RG.

The other offensive unit that needed addressing was the WR's and it was here that the Chiefs really made hay. We acquired Andre Johnson, a pro-bowler already and just entering the prime of his career. Then we also acquired 2006 2nd rounder and speedster Sinorice Moss. He will not only provide a great weapon on offense, but it heir apparent to Donte Hall as return man extraordianaire.

At QB, the chiefs had a decision to make: did Trent Green have anything left? At his age and coming off of his injury, it was too risky to plan on having him as the starter especially given Damon Huard's dazzling play in relief of him last season. So Huard became the starter. The team already had a young, talented, QB in waiting in Brodie Croyle, but could not pass on the opportunity to add Drew stanton as a potential QB of the future. This two young QBs will get to learn under Huard while competing with each other, and the Chiefs should be set at QB for years to come.

On defense, the chiefs made some excellent strides as well. The loss of Ty Law in the Johnson deal could have hurt, but in the process of acquiring the younger Al harris as an established replacement, they also massively upgraded at MLB with young star Nick Barnett. The weakest part of the defense had been at defensive tackle, and the Chiefs acquired Tank Tyler and Ryan McBean so allow the Cheifs to make plays across their defensive line.

I think the result is simple. The Chiefs are younger and better in every phase of the game.
