Good pick at 11? Seems to be the best NT in the class.

Nope, since the Okoye weigh in put the nail in the coffin of the "can play NT" argument, I'm now sold on just getting a lane clogger later on. So give me Landry or Nelson unless we don't get a pass rusher in free agency.

Not to say we should draft him, but 6-2/323 is pretty big.

I feel the exact same way. Space eating NT's are the centerpiece of a 3-4, but it doesn't mean you take one with your first pick. I'll take a guy whose gonna make gamebreaking plays and just draft a big *** strong dude later on.

Oh I think a NT is worth a first, but I have to be **** sure he has the strength, discipline, and endurance to be special at NT, and has the frame to hold that weight.

Haven't really seen a no-doubter in that mold since Wilfork.

A guy that has caught my attention all season as a possible nose tackle is Brandon Mebane. Good size, great strength, outstanding leverage, and very smart. I think he could play NT in the NFL.

That's where I'm at on this whole stance. Until I see a sure fire Wilfork or Jammal Williams, I'll wait for a NT.

See what happens with Okoye..

See what happens with Okoye..Okoye isn't going to be a NT in the NFL. He's played a whole lot better since dropping down to 295 lbs., and even I will admit that's a little light for a NT. Not to mention that his best asset seems to be his penetration.

Says who? This is ridiculous. This is what I read about the first senior bowl practice.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/9949399

The most impressive athlete after one practice is 19-year-old defensive tackle Amobi Okoye from Louisville. The first thing that jumped out at me during his pass-rush drills and the 9-on-7 live running game drill was his explosive quickness and excellent technique. It's hard to comprehend that a kid only 19 years old is graduating from college and looks like the next Warren Sapp. Okoye is 6-foot-2 and 312 pounds with the legs of a running back. New Tampa Bay defensive line coach Larry Coyer could hardly contain his emotions coaching the teen-ager no one could block

Yeah and I guess we dont need any defensive tackles that can get after the qb. I am not down with drafting a "space eater" with the #11 pick. We can get a 2 gap mauler in the second round people. We need a pass rush people, and I'm sorry but we arent going to get it until we add some talent to the defensive line. 3-4 or 4-3 makes no difference to me as long as we have a pass rush next season, and i dont think it can ALL come from the LB positions. But thats just my opinion.

Thats where your logic falls short though it makes a gigantic difference, not only in what you ask your DL to do but the physical stature, athletic ability, assignments.....the list goes on. You cant draft a DL with NO scheme in mind. Okoye in your example was likened to sapp, what part about that makes you think he could handle the NT job? Sapp didnt even play NT when the Raiders ran it two years ago.

Good point, something to keep in mind is that Okoye may not be a great fit in a 3-4. If the comparisons are accurate to Sapp then look no further than Sapp himself and how he faired in the 34. He amounted a whopping 2 sacks and was unhappy all season. Part of this is because his WR mentality isnt a good fit for the 34 but I dont like Okoye at 11 if we're running a 34. If he could play NT then sure, but I dont like him in a 34.

Saying Sapp played bad because he only got 2 sacks in the 3-4 is bogus. His job is to take up blockers and set up plays for other people. He was miss used in the 3-4 though because he is a penetrator and not a anchor.

And thats why I dont want Okoye. Hes Sapp-like and almost any big body can be a 34 DE.
