Rams | Faulk discusses health, future

Bryan Burwell, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams RB Marshall Faulk (knees) has yet to decide whether he will return to the playing field in the future. The 33-year-old Faulk is bothered by troublesome knees and is not sure when he would be physically ready to play again. "It's all health-related," Faulk said. "I have my good days, and I have my bad days. I want to make sure I am ready. And right now I don't know if I'm ready. But I want to play again. I'm not saying I'm going to be the guy who had all those 2,000-yard-plus seasons, because I'm not. But I can still play the game; I know I can. The question is whether or not this knee will be good enough to allow me to." Faulk noted that he would only return to play if it is for the Rams, even with former head coach Mike Martz now in Detroit. "I love Mike," Faulk said, laughing, "I really do. But Mike doesn't own any team, does he? So that's the end of that."

If he has to question whether he can still play at this age, and has "good days" and "bad days", I think he should officially hang em up. Sure he was dynamic back in the day, but I don't even think he could contribute as a secondary back anymore.

I pretty much agree. It's one thing to want to play, but if your body tells you that you can't or that it's questionable at best, that means it's time to retire.

a la Jeremy Newberry...

You know he has the desire to play, but he also has to remember that he's got the rest of your life ahead of him...

Faulk was a great back and he should be remembered as such. If he goes back, I think he'll look terrible a la Emmit Smith with the Fards. Hang it up!

However, I think he should get into coaching. Have you heard on the NFLN? The man knows his game.

If you're not sure, then you might as well hang it up, or else you'll just get run over by D-linemen who ARE sure about their ability to play.
