Anyone who wants to alert fellow MB members of how wrong they are, this is the place to do it. I'm not trying to start arguments, just a little fun in the "I told you so" catagory.

you can think that but Rolle is coming off an ACL tear and Law is slow and old. Law is no longer a good CB so you should want him to sign there.
Law had 4 interceptions, 5 passes defensed, and 1 sack in 2006 which is about average for a CB in the NFL. However, he also had a career high 61 tackles. What stunned me most about your comment Knobs was that you made the statement after Law had a career high 10 interceptions in 2005. No longer good you say? :whistling:

Seahawks will finish 3rd in the division regardless...mark my words:-)
I'm marking your words Jay, but not the way you'd like me to, more in the way that a dog marks it's territory.

You mean like this?
TheThing is right Krowleey, you're totally in denial. Don't get me wrong, I think the 49ers are going to have a good season and finish at .500 or higher. However, after watching the Eagles in their preseason games so far, they look incredibly good. I said it before the draft, and I'll say it again now...Philadelphia is going to return to the form this year that got them to 4 straight NFC Championship games.
As for the original question, call me crazy but I picked the Lions. I think they're going to show steep improvement under Mike Martz, and just might have a shot at a wild card. The Miami Dolphins I don't think should even be an option on that list, they're not really a sleeper. They won the last 6 straight games of the 2005 season, and barely missed getting into the playoffs. I would be surprised if they didn't get into the playoffs this year.

So did you argue with these guys at the time, or just store up the words for hindsight purposes.
And by the way, Law was worth nowhere near the contract he would have cost us. He is still a 'playmaker', but he needs safety help up top now or he's toast. I don't see how quoting "average" stats for a CB means they are still good anyway. Seriously, a pretty weak attempt to make someone eat crow ...

Yes, exactly like that. The only thing I was right about in that qoute was the Eagles not being lousy.

I don't know what the point of this thread is. We have all had predictions that didn't come to fruition.
Should I go back and take every single post from the pick the winners threads and post them here. Most people didn't have a perfect prediction record there. Should they eat crow too for picking the wrong teams.

They weren't anything like previous years eagles though, Garcia and them pounding the ball.
That is the series I predicted this preseason for the championship. Yankees/Mets in another subway series, with the Mets winning of course. Vengence for the year 2000!

Yes, I was involved in the actual argument. Only some of Law's stats were average, but 61 tackles is a lot for that position. I was showing that although he may not be elite anymore, he's still a good CB. You're right about his price though, he's certainly not worth what he's being payed. I never wanted Law for the Niners anyway, I don't much like his conceited attitude.

You do realize that the total tackles stat is not necessarily (sp) "good" for a cornerback, right?

That is up to you. I'm not really talking about game predictions. The arguments I mentioned were about much bigger pictures and had occured well before the season started. I'm just getting closure on a few things.

It's above average.

Tigger, what Fez means is that the "Tackles made" stat for a CB could be a bad thing, as it might mean he is letting his receiver catch the ball and then having to make the tackle, not breaking up the pass or covering so well that the QB looks elsewhere.
"Good" tackles would be in run support etc, but the bare stat doesn't tell you where and why the tackles were made.

Ok, if you really need me to spell it out for you...
Go to NFL.com and look up the stats for defensive backs, then sort those stats by the number of tackles. Ty Law is #40 on the list out of over 350 players. You may also notice that many of the DBs listed above him are of the safety position, which tend to get more tackles on average than CBs do.

I'd have to eat crow on the saints. I stated they would have the worst second half record of any team in the NFL.......Woops.
Pat my back on Cincy when i stated they would not make the playoffs along with Pitt before the season started.

True, the only way to verify that either way would be to watch each individual play he made and nobody is going to do that. Besides, you could say that about almost any defensive positition. In addition, I just noticed that he also had a career high of 3 forced fumbles.

It could mean two things. He's either getting the ball passed on him alot because QBs don't see him as playing coverage as good as the CB on the other side of the field, or it could mean that Ty Law reacts quickly and sticks his head in on run plays.
It's absolutely ignorant to judge a CB off of the tackle stats. Most intelligent people will look at the film and base their opinion off of that because that also tells us why a CB may not have a lot of INTs, i.e. the offense is scared to throw in his direction.
Very good point.
