Terence Newman, CB, Dallas Cowboys

And since I've picked up three cows in a row, I finally decided to give this team a name:

The Brokeback Cowboys are proud to present their lead cheerleader:

ok we all have lives. all i am saying is that when 1 person doesn't keep up in the game then 10 other people have to wait on them and that isn't fair either. the people that signed up for this game should know what they are getting into and should have enough seriousness about the game to check when they are going to be drafting. if a person is going to be skipped they can easily send someone a list of players they want to select so they can select for them, or give us a heads up not to wait, etc.

Thanks. Yeah, someone selected a center two days ago and noted that they just took the last "elite" center on the board. I was like, "Uh..."

You have to consider any player that is turning 35 to be less than elite status, how can you be sure he won't hit the wall this year? We aren't basing this game on what they have done in the past, its what they will do. Kevin Mawae was an elite center, is he still one? maybe....but his skills have already degraded to a degree. That question mark puts him a bit below elite status in my book.

I find it ironic that you're chastizing the very guy who created the game.
ya i just made a comment on PTR's comment about getting Rexi and G4LIFE's numbers so we can call them when its their pick, basically so we dont have to wait for them to come back to pick. i didn't mean to chastize the guy i was just making some basic, obvious comments like: when 1 person doesn't keep up in the game then 10 other people have to wait on them

now i may have come off harsh but that wasn't the intent. i get ansy thinking about drafting the next player that is going to make me win this thing!

Tough to tell as he will be closer to 36 than 35 when the season begins. Each person will have to make their own judgement about that, but we all know what happens around that age. He was elite when pushing 34.....is hes till elite when pushing 36? we'll each have to make our own minds up...

thats fine but i dont want you to think he has been out for 2 years. and for the record he just had a birthday and is 35 and will be for the entire season not 36. anyways, he was an elite center and still dominating at 34 last year. he even tore his tricep muscle and stayed in the game and din't know he tore them until after the game....i know this because i was at the game. he was dominant at 33, 34, and will now be 35. and we aren't juding people's teams on what they will be in 2-3 years, we are drafting for the best team now.

Yeah as I said he'll be pushing 36 by the start of the season, he was born in January. Thats closer to 36 than 35. I'm just pointing out the factors that made me not pick him.

Agreed he *could* still be elite or he could wind up eating 10 babies and go to jail for life, but we don't have a crystal ball so we have to go on probability. Pushing 36 seems to me like he is pretty risky, he was still the best center on the board when he was picked, but elite? iffy.

They all hit the wall sometime.....Matt Birk, being 30 has a much much much lower chance of hitting the wall. Pushing 36....thats chance is pretty high and therefore risky.

its the year 2006 and he was born in 1971 so that would make him 35 for the entire season......his birthday is in january so he wont be 36 at all.

oh well i dont care, i think Mawae is better than most centers and dont feel like comparing him to other centers and certainly dont care enough to argue because my center is better than both of them.

Haha there is no argument here, like I said we each have to make up our own mind. I've made up mine.

Ok wait...there is one argument...I said twice now....PUSHING 36...with the NFL season going from Sept-Jan and him being born in Jan, I think thats close enough to consider him PUSHING 36.

Yes, but we won't know how he does until after grading is complete. So we have to grade on "Will Mawae still be elite at his age? or will he just be a good center?"

I'm not saying he is going to be crap or even average, but he could just be a good center and not so dominating at his age.

alright well according to your logic he is elite when closer to 35 which gives him until late July to be elite and then when he instantly becomes closer to 36 in August he will hit the wall and won't be an elite center.

No, I just refer to him as pushing 36 because thats accurate....

I'm not saying he will for sure hit the wall, like I said no crystal ball here, but at his age skills errode and at what speed they errode we can't be sure. So when considering how good Mawae will be next year you HAVE to consider that he may no longer be elite.

Same with a guy like will shields or even larry allen, we all know Allen isn't what he was, but how much will his skills errode is the question. And that question needs to be addressed! We can't ignore it and live in magical pixie land!

Now what your final conclusion is, is up to you.

Smaller window, Times people most likely to be on, 1 or 2 hours durring a weekend/night with a 5 min window, possibly a rule that if your "next" and come on within an hour of your scheduled pick that you send your top 2 to the person who drafts after you, and no offense to anyone but more frequently posting owners.

with all due respect, 1-2 hours to pick would be a little ridiculous and would force people to literally live on the MB. the more frequent poster thing could be a nice solution to waiting. but if i can quote Fez:

whats the rush?

if people used the whole time of 6 hours every once in a while that would be nice because people are busy. i think you just want rapid fire picks and your solution of frequent posters could be the end-all solution of all your problems.

with all due respect, 1-2 hours to pick would be a little ridiculous and would force people to literally live on the MB. the more frequent poster thing could be a nice solution to waiting. but if i can quote Fez:

if people used the whole time of 6 hours every once in a while that would be nice because people are busy. i think you just want rapid fire picks and your solution of frequent posters could be the end-all solution of all your problems.
OK we're having communication probs, find out a window of an hour or two in the week where we are all on (its happend) and durring that hour we have 5 minute windows to pick. Regular picks are 6 hours but friday at X time we agree to meet for 1/2 or an hour and accelerate the thing, I'm not suggesting a straight 1 hour window.

So... we're saying that guys who are still considered in the top 5 at their position are no longer elite (although they still were last year) because they might not be next year? Hmm... Whoever picked Shaun Alexander is screwed...

You HAVE to take age into consideration! We don't live in magical fairy land where people can play forever! I'm not saying it makes them worthless, just that it is a negative and can cause certain players to be viewed as less than elite!

If you feel like ignoring age and living in a dream world thats up to you.

The way I look at it is, if the player is still prdoucing and considered elite, you can't say he's not elite anymore until he starts showing it. It's like giving the player the benefit of the doubt. You can say he may not be elite this season because of age, but for right now he's still elite until proven otherwise, IMO.

Then we should be grading on who has the best team LAST year, not THIS year.

If you grade like old vets aren't declining, then you have to grade like young players aren't progressing. Then how do we grade AJ Hawk/Reggie Bush/Mario Williams who haven't done jack in the NFL? If young guys progress, old guys decline. How much they progress or decline is up to you.

It's a weak argument. Robbie Tobeck has never been half the center that Mawae is and he just went to the Pro Bowl last year at 35... and a half. He's almost a full year older than Mawae. Next... I'll assume you're not as excited as most that the 49ers signed one of the oldest yet most productive offensive linemen in the league in Larry Allen. :)

I mentioned a while back that Allen isn't what he was and we all KNOW that. He is still a great Guard, but not the superman he was. So it is with alot of older players.

How could you all ignore age like its NOTHING!? It is something, geez.

They haven't declined until their play shows it. Age isn't a factor until you see it in their play. So far I haven't seen anything in Mawae's play that would suggest he's not elite anymore.

I haven't seen anything from Reggie Bush/Mario Williams/AJ Hawk to say they will be good in the NFL. Until they show it they are nothing...

not sure exactly where Tribeca is because i dont live in new york city but have visited many many times and can confirm that if you know the right places or in the heart of NYC that it really doesn't sleep. heck i live in Buffalo and the bars don't even close until 4 and NYC stays partying even later. to be perfectly honest i'm not sure why everything is closing at midnight.

oh ya, it can get absolutly brutal at times. especially when everyone gets on me for not being on at 1 am PT to make my pick but dont realize its actually 4 am for me and i have to wake in 2 hours at 6 am. but your right, this is the time someone on the east coast would want to really get this thing going because its the perfect time and they are up and the west coast is still sleeping, oh well this is the time i get my workout in because i know there isn't much activity on the MB.

he might be a top 5 or 6 DE in the nfl. it is a shame people don't get to see this guy as often as i do and he plays for the Bills who don't get any media attention. this guy is an unbelievable player and leader. his stats speak for themselves:

http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/235241

-Outstanding speed and quickness off the line.
-Is tall with long arms and can keep blockers from locking on.
-Very determined.
-A resourceful pass rusher with good technique.

I don't wanna name the other NFC QBs because there are a couple of players who haven't picked up one, yet, but if you think of the starting QB for every NFC team, you'll find out there isn't a lot of competition for that "title".

Don't get me wrong, Hasselbeck is good, but what knobs' doing is comparing a hot chick like Angelina Jolie to Talk Show gals like Oprah Winfrey.

i dont find Jolie attractive at all, maybe its her being white trash or her awfully bad lip implants, my point is your making a bad point. there is plenty of good QB's in the nfc, they just dont get the credit of say Brady or Manning. if you want me to hang on a limb then i will say he is a top 4 QB in the nfl. i think your just angry that my 16th pick is just about as good as your #1 pick!

now how you like that for talk show talk! http://boards.buffalobills.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/poke.gif

Top 4 in the NFL?

no i definitly get it. instead of giving Matt the credit he is due your basically saying there is no good QB's in the NFC so being the best QB in the NFC isn't saying much. one could easily venture to say he is the 3rd best QB in all of football. either way, being the best at your position in your conference or the nfl is a huge accomplishment.

Top 4 in the NFL?
yes! the only QB's that are better than him are Brady and Manning, the rest are even with him or worse than him. are your guys seriously debating how good Hasselbeck is?

Are you?

There's a reason why a Seahawks fan chose Daunte Culpepper (even with THAT injury) over Hass...

But hey, it's ok with me. You wanna believe you got the best 3rd QB, more power to you. We'll be grading everyone's teams except each's own anyway, so there may not be homer grades.
