View Full Version : NFL Mock Draft
G4LIFE

Anyone interested in doing a Team Mock Draft:
Rules: I want to use about 10-12 people to do this. Each person will pick a player currently in the NFL (including Rookies) when it's their turn to build their team. Each person will pick 11 Offensive Players, 11 Defensive Players, 1 KR/PR, and a Punter and PlaceKicker. You can use any kind of Offense/Defensive scheme that you want as long as it adds up to 11 players on both sides of the ball. When starting the draft, The person who picks first will select one player but will pick 2 players every other time because the draft order is going to be snaked. Snake order means, The first and last person making their selections will select 2 players each time after the first complete round.
After everyone has their team together we will vote to see who had the best team. I've done this before on another Draft site so I'll keep it organized as far as keeping track of players who have already been selected. Each person has to keep track of their own players when they select them. Everyone will have 24 hours in between picks before they are skipped and the person picking next can select their player.

we wont be assigned an nfl team, in fact it wouldn't make any sense at all especially because there will only be 10-12 people/teams in this draft.

3 hours per pick really isn't a long time at all, especially when i work all day and have school.
.....we should make the time limit alot longer. if i go to work and can be gone for 8-16 hours at a time plus school, 3-5 picks could be skipped past me before i knew it. 3 hours is definitly not long enough, we should make the window like 12 hours or something so this doesn't become our lives.

Can't be much longer than 3 hours....it will take a year.
It won't take a year but it will take a while. On the other draft site that I did it at, It took about 3 weeks for everyone to finish their rosters. I think everyone is on here enough to pick within a decent time but I can see how some people can't make it on here about 4 or 5 times a day to check it.
How Bout we vote:
Everybody chose ONE:
6 hours or 12 hours between picks
I want to make it quick enough where people don't get bored of it taking to long but long enough to where people can have a chance to make their pick on time.
To Start this off.......I VOTE 12 HOURS BETWEEN PICKS.

6 hours sounds about right to me sense there is no sense of urgency on this game. It's not like we've got to finish in time for the draft.
The other thing I would ask is why wouldn't we open it up to 32 teams? With just a few teams, every team will end up pretty great. But if you made it kind of like a Madden fantasy draft, it would make it much more realistic. Food for thought.
Anyway, since we're into my window, I'm gonna make my selection.
32 Teams....I had a hard time barely getting 11 people to participate....It works better when you have about 10-15 players doing it because alot of people start to die it when they feel it starts to drag.

The best in 3 years? I'm building the best team possible, starting with the QB (especially when I have a chance to get an elite/franchise QB). And I know how the grades work..
hey take it easy, i just think people take the flashy pick like a QB and not the BAP like walter jones, champ bailey, dwight freeney, julius peppers who completely adjust opposing teams game plans because they are elite/impact players, not just good players at their position.

nice picks, those back-to-back picks really came in big for you. arguably the 2 best players at their positions, and top players overall in the nfl was real nice. i wanted Walter Jones but that elite pass rusher is just too valuable in the nfl and possibly the most valuable guy on the field, i couldn't pass on Freeney. either way, nice picks!

Thats why these are fun, so many different positions of importance. Me personally I'll take a lesser QB that can manage over a playmaker at the position, where as QB for you is the most important. Always interesting to see ho teams pan out with the different strategies.

Yep. My strategy too. Only one that makes sense this early in the draft.
I'm doing it in Tiers, so when Dwight Freeney goes off the board I don't ignore DE's. John Abraham is still a elite tier DE so I'll pick him before say a Randy Moss because DE has more value and well I don't like Moss either lol.
I was also lucky to have the last elite QB and DE fall to me at my spots, being the most valuable positions on offense and defense.

that is correct, the draft order is snaking, people seem to be forgetting that somehow.
Okay... people...
Rounds in odd numbers go as normal.. Rexi first, me second, iheart third...
Rounds in pair numbers go backwards...
Is that clear?!?
(Yes, sir!)
Okay.. here I go...
After picking the general of my offense in Tom Brady, it is natural that now I wanna pick an elite general of the defensive unit, and who's better than:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/magazine/features/si50/states/new_mexico/essay/p1_urlacher.jpg
BRIAN URLACHER.
A relatively young MLB, field general, motivator and recently named the Defensive Player of the Year. Tackle machine, effective blitzer.
Oddly enough, he's from the same draft class as Tom Brady.
Rexi is next, with two straight picks.

Matter of opinion but I think that anyone who says Terrell Owens is outright the best receiver in the league has bought into a ton of hype. He's good but the best? Not even close.
Agreed. Whether you want to believe it or not, off the field issues matter. And he has the tendency to turn them into ON THE FIELD issues, or at least IN THE LOCKER ROOM issues. And that destroys a team.
Ace Matherton
05-24-2006, 02:33 AM
As you said opinion, I'll take T.O.'s effort, training and ability over any other reciever in the league. His off field issues IMO are the only thing keeping him from being the best WR. No other player at his postion can match his skill set let alone 5.I'll give you off field issues mater a bunch in the real world but for the purposes of the game he's got no eaqual with the exception of Moss and a young Ftitzgerald and he'll prove it this year with the cowpokes. I hate saying it but the T.O. of 04 will pale in comparison of the T.o. of 06 IMO.

we can work that out as we go but the way this is going it just may take months to complete. i was hoping to get through like a round a day so this would take less than a month but it is looking very unlikely.

Safety's as good as Ed Reed?! you MUST be dreaming. Ed Reed is a dynamic playmaker and was DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR in 2004. Since the award was started in 1971....3 safeties have won it....the last one being 1984....20 years prior to Ed winning it.
I agree Safety has less value then some other positions, but Ed Reed is far and away th best safety in the league and his value is way higher than any other safety. He gives the safety position value, getting him with the 31st pick as absolute robbery.
Hey here is our boy Nolan chiming in!:
"I don't know if there is a better playmaker in the game," says former Ravens defensive coordinator and new 49ers coach Mike Nolan. "Ed is clearly the best safety in the league."

He was 1.B for me and I only took Marvin cause............. the coin came up heads! I wanted the Blocking/Possesion but went with a bit more flair.

Uh... team player, talented, glue hands, great blocker, #1 on Pittsburgh despite Troy Edwards and Plaxico...
I think no, it isn't early.
We can discuss it after the draft.
Just say it... Saleem Rasheed. :fishing:

I propose switching the time for picks to 4 hours.

Yes vote from me. In fact, if you wanted to cut it to 3, I'd say yes to that too.
I'm absolutely fine with three hours.

05-24-2006, 05:05 PM
well, considering that we have a member who is now 7 picks behind (g4life) we might want to wait on cutting the time in half just yet. just in the interest of fairness i would say we should wait for it to get back to g4life to change IMO.
however, it needs to be 6 for rexi, there is no reason it should be 12, is anyone against that?

Ask Rexi, he's right here :ok:
But I agree, we should wait for G4Life before we change the time limit.
dude u guys he created the thread he isnt blowing off the game. most likely he has a life. 12 hours is a bit much though and it seems unfair. we should keep it at 6 hrs though.
i think it's iheartniners, not sure though
we should just get everyone together for a few hours and bang this thing out
yes! :tung: Wishful thinking, tho... besides, what's the rush?
I AM in a rush, tho... Heart ain't here and I wanna pick already... gotta take a shower!!! :tung:

I say we make the switch to 3 hours on the next person. Can I get someone to second and third the motion?

i completely object!
6 hours is fine and short enough. anybody that has to work real hours like 8+ hours a day or in a shift or have to go to school will get completely screwed.

hehe alrighty. 6 works for me too, for some reason when I read your above post i thought you were saying "we really need to speed it up". I'm going to be gone from Friday - Sunday so a lengthier time would actually be good for me.
