Doesnt make sense on the Jets part, they'd take away the opportunity to select either Brick or Mario to get Ngata or Huff. :hide:

Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports one rumor making the rounds has the New York Jets (No. 4) swapping their first-round pick with the Oakland Raiders (No. 7), who want a quarterback. The Jets then select Oregon DT Haloti Ngata with the seventh pick. The Jets don't have a pure nose tackle for their new 3-4 scheme.

If the Faiders trade up for Vince Young, AJ Hawk is going to slide to us at 6, and it'd be hard for us to pass on him there.
1. Bush
2. Mario Williams
3. Matt Lienhart
4. Vince Young (from NY)
5. D'Brickashaw Ferguson (their line was obliterated by free agency, so this pick makes a ton of sense)
6. AJ vs Vernon?
Am I missing someone? Also, if GB goes with Vernon Davis at #5, that means we get to pick between D-Brick, AJ Hawk, and Huff.

I dont think he'd make it past the Pack.
Here's a scary thought, at 7 they could very likely take AJ Hawk and in their 3-4 their 2 ILBs would be Vilma and Hawk.

Actually, this would be a great trade for both teams. The Raiders would be assured of drafting either Leinart or Young (assuming New Orleans doesn't draft a QB), and the Jets would be assured of drafting either Ferguson or Justice. And it would only cost the Raiders their 3rd and 5th rounders. Probably won't happen until Draft Day, though.

This would be great for us. Then we would be assured a game changer in Hawk and Davis...hopefully we will go with Hawk.
This makes no sense. Why would they waste future picks to trade up for someone who will be there at #7, where the pick anyway? Or thye possibly move up one spot to #6 and get there guy there.

Exactly what I was just thinking......he will be there at #7 anyways unless Tenn decides on him over Lienart......but even in that case, its still a #4 and Tenn is at #3. Who would the Raiders be afraid will take VY before #7?

Green Bay COULD take Ferguson, but remember that it was their INTERIOR LINE (both guards and now the center) who left. They still have 2 quite good tackles. So Ferguson would not fix that problem unless they think one of their tackles will be very effective at Guard.
The problems with the Jets- Raiders trade theory are:
1) The Jets already have tons of picks including 2 firsts, so I can only see them trading this pick down if they don't like Ferguson or VD enough for the money and if they want to move their 29 pick up in a seperate trade.
2) The raiders would have to be convinced that Vince Young would not be there at 7, and the 2 teams in between are not looking quarterback, nor are the teams in prime trade up range. This means that the Jets would likely have to take Young themselves, then trade him for the picks, which is a much bigger risk for them unless they would be happy with Young if Oakland backs out.

I am not so sure. It has been reported the GB really likes AJ Hawk.

Rumor has it that Young won't be there at #7. SF has been fielding offers to trade out of that spot, so guys are trying to leapfrog us so they can secure him, assuming the Titans don't take him first.

That's the other scenario I can easily see happening. Personally, I'd rather have the 300lbs rookie LT to protect my $24 million dollar QB, who spent more time on his back than in the pocket in 2005. You can't pass up a blue chipper like Brick.

Absolutely. He is the second best player in this draft, and can take away one half of the offensive line, kinda like Dwight Freeney or Julius Peppers.
It's like people asking why we want Vernon Davis when we have Eric Johnson. VD is a rare talent. Mario Williams is just as much of an athletic freak. Maybe a once-in-a-lifetime pick that the Saints could have. Because honestly, nobody wants to pick number two every year. He'd be a good pickup.

This trade doesn't make sense for Oakland. They are not moving ahead of Tennessee, say trading with NO so they'd have a shot at either Leinart or Young. The first QB will go at 3 to TEN and then OAK will have their pick of whoevers left over between Young and Leinart unless NYJ change course and do take a QB, However if NYJ was to take a QB why would they be pondering trading down to take a DT.
I could see Oakland moving ahead of TEN because we hear that TEN is leaning to VY and the Raiders want Young (or so we hear). However, moving up to 4 would get them the same QB that they would get at 7 since a QB is very unlikely to go between TEN and us here at 6.

Peter King had some good advice a couple weeks ago in his column, don't believe anything you hear inside of two weeks to the draft and this is why:
Despite persistent rumors that they have been in contact with the Saints (No. 2 overall) and the Jets (No. 4) as part of a three-way deal that would move them up to No. 2, two well-placed NFL sources have confirmed that the Raiders have not made specific inquiries to move up in the order and that they are content, for now, to stick with the No. 7 pick.
-- San Francisco Chronicle
The Jets' interest in Jay Cutler remains high, so much so that they're in discussions with the Ravens to try to obtain him with the 13th pick overall, according to a person who has been in contact with several NFL teams and has first-hand knowledge of strategy in the top portion of the NFL Draft.
-- Newark Star-Ledger
The Jets have no plans to draft Matt Leinart, Vince Young or Jay Cutler. Barring some veteran smoke-screen work by Mike Tannenbaum and Eric Mangini, it appears almost certain the Jets will not take a quarterback that high. It's widely believed they will draft a QB from the so-called second tier of available bodies, with hopes of finding a gem out of the first round.
-- New York Post
Indications now are that the Titans, who have the No. 3 pick in the first round, likely will pick Texas quarterback Vince Young, passing on Matt Leinart if he's still on the board, despite Leinart's past with Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow, a former Trojans assistant coach, and coach Jeff Fisher's infatuation with Leinart. General manager Floyd Reese, who'll make the final decision, prefers Young.

It's a virtual guaranteed certainty that there is no way that DE Williams, RB Bush, and Young or Leinart will not survive to pick #4. Regardless of draft grades, I don't see New York that interested in Hawk and despite the nice dream of Ferguson, I think drafting down to 7 and picking up an extra 2nd rounder from Oakland and then some would be a real boon for that team. It places them in front of Buffalo to get Ngata as well and Oakland gets their QB.

I'd bet they take Williams then when the Jets pick is on the clock they work out some sort of trade. Possibly a the #2 + a pick or player for the #4 and DT D Robertson. the jets are in the eviable position to be able to take a elite RB C T with both their second and third picks. Making D'brick essentially expendable when they can pick up Winston/Mangold later. The saints have a major need at T and DT which they would fill and the Jets could concievably come away with M Willimams, D Williams and Winston/Mangold which would be a draft day steal for New York.

if GB wants to build their team around Brett Favre's last season, then let them make the mistake. seriously, if they want to draft a TE with the 5th pick in the draft then let them do it and we can draft Hawk or D'Brick, the better players anyways. i really want VD but i still have a hard time drafting a TE so high in the draft, even if he is a physical beast.
The fudge packers have Bubba Franks signed to a big deal and Favre loves him so why would they select davis with big holes at LB? That is why the pick of VD at 5 makes no sense

Green Bay has a lot of needs a lot more pressing than TE. Brett Favre or not.
They are desperate for some quality defense and interior line help. To fix the interior line, I could see them counter-intuitively taking Ferguson and moving Clifton inside to try and form an outstanding left-side, a' la' the Seahawks of last year.
I think, though, Hawk is probably their most likely pick as he'll be the best defender available for them at #5 and their defense has been stinking it up for a couple of years now.

Felix... McNair has been grooming Young while in college. The Titans are looking for McNair's replacement. They are not going to go for Hollywood Matt. The want the stud and will build a team around him. McNair will teach him the game and Young will probably be far more durable than McNair was.
Now the Faiders might still trade up to get Leinart but that's irrelevant, because the franchise is such a disaster for any player. If Matt is smart he plays out his first contract... keep it a short one Matt... and then he gets big bucks somewhere else. If they tag him then he's screwed. Either way the guy really blew it when he didn't come out last year. He could have come here to a good franchise instead of to the Saints, Jets or Faiders.
I can't wait to see how he reacts to the New York crowds and media if he doesn't perform up to par... boy is he gonna hate NY. heheh.

Look for the 49ers to take Maryland tight end Vernon Davis with the sixth overall pick -- it's the worst-kept secret out there -- and come back and take a corner with the 22nd pick. The word is the 49ers love Virginia Tech's Williams and if he's there, they will take him.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
THis is exactly what I want!!!:sam: 2 playmakers that we desperately need. I'm with Sean Salisbury, VOTE the "DUKE" for OFF. ROY in 2006. J-Will fills an immediate need because now we have the guys in he & Shawntae to slow down receivers that have been torchin' us for years i.e. Holt/Bruce, Boldin/Fitzgerald.
