Ohhh man.. I hope not. I hate the Franchise Tag. If you really like a player... pay the man!!! It's just ridiculous!!

According to the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens are not expected to place the franchise tag on All-Pro linebacker Adalius Thomas. The team will make a final decision today.

The Ravens are in discussion with Thomas over a long term deal and could be using the franchise tag as a threat to get the deal done. Placing the franchise tag on Thomas will guarantee him $7.2 million this year, a figure that the Ravens can't afford given the small amount of cap space that they have available.

Thomas, 29, finished with a career-high 11 sacks this season and ranked third on the team with 106 tackles.

The Ravens have decided not to use the franchise tag on Adalius Thomas and will allow the All-Pro linebacker to become an unrestricted free agent on March 2, general manager Ozzie Newsome said today.

Although they chose not to tag Thomas, the Ravens will try to keep him once he hits free agency.

"We will continue to have negotiations with Adalius," Newsome said. "I don't know what the market will bear out for him."
