The News
Kellen Winslow's streak of healthy seasons is in jeopardy of ending at one after the Akron Beacon Journal revealed that his recent "minor" offseason procedure was in fact microfracture surgery. Winslow underwent the surgery on his right knee January 30, in what most believed was a simple clean-up of lingering knee problems he had played through during the season. Browns GM Phil Savage told the Beacon Journal the team expects Winslow to be back at full-go by June or July, though it is not know whether that puts him on schedule to participate in the team's June minicamp.
Our View
Winslow has already said he'll never be the same as he was before ruining his knee in a motorcycle accident, though of course he added that 90 percent of him is better than any other tight end in the league. Considering he compiled 89 receptions while essentially playing without cartilage in his knee, we're inclined to believe him. Microfracture is a scary word because few football players have successfully come back after having the procedure, so we're back in wait-and-see mode on Winslow heading into 2007. www.fanball.com newsbreakers
