A friend of mine actually works with one of the sports radio stations in AZ just told me that the Niners said they are prepared to make an offer to Dante Stallworth.
I usually dont post things like this, but whatever, take it or leave it. Just repeating what I have heard.

there's no doubt in my mind we are prepared to make him an offer. will it be one that he wil accept? that could be a different story.
i'd definitely be content with him coming over here, but i'm not so sure we'll offer him the kind of money other teams might... you never know though.

if this is true (i hope it is), then the niners get one less worrie at the draft and with so many picks draft a wr in the late rounds and hope for the next colston.
guys like:
Jacoby Jones Lane 6-4 210 4.45
Jordan Kent Oregon 6-5 210 4.50
Matt Trannon Michigan St. 6-6 235 4.65

I tried to get more out of him, but couldn't. He is a big Niner fan as well which is why he was willing to give me that info. I am not sure where he got it, however, I dont want to badger him about it either.

By mentioning that, the niners have now violated the CBA, but its a sports show in AZ so the likelyhood of that being true is slim.
No team can talk about or infer whom they like publicly before the FA deadline.

Like I said, it is just a rumor. If it were official you would see it everywhere. Hence, no CBA rules violated.

Rather save our money for AT and Clements/other D spots. I don't see us being able to get all three

If you think we're getting AT AND clements...then you're crazy. We definitely have a better shot at getting Adalius, stallworth, a couple smaller named FA and still maintain a healthy cap situation.

I think it woul be possible, but unlikely. It says it in my signature, but I mainly want us to get Thomas with Clements as a back up option

I would think you have to go with Clements. Quality CBs are hard to come by. We can find a serviceable LB in the draft. Hopefully in the mold of a Demeco Ryans or Lofa Tatupu. :go9ers:

I just hope that Nolan won't fall into the same hole we did when we "bought" our 94' SB.
I'm not trying to be double standard here because I'd love for us to get Stallworth, AT and any other proved athlete, but not put us in debt again.

I think the Dolphins or us will get him. Miami is in desperate need of speedy deep threat and they might be getting Brady Quinn or another qb so they will try to get him some targets.

Stallworth has blazing speed.... He could be a real deep threat....
He just seems like another Brynat, but with more injury issues and less character issues. So sign him, whatever we have 37 million.:)

i say we can get a big Defensive FA in Thomas or Clements AND Stallworth if we wanted and pay all the rookies and pick up a few more FAs and still have a ton of cap room..im not too worried, not at all

We can afford both, obviously getting them both here would be a HUGE victory and not likely to happen.... but we can afford them both.

Don't know if that nerdy guy in your avatar is you, guessing not by that statement.
We do not have as much to spend as people think, especially if we sign AD. I'm not disagreeing that we could(not preferred by me) get Dante and AD, but to say we could get a few more FAs and still have a ton of cap room is completely bizarre. Observe:
start 37.5
gore 7.5
BY 3
lee/wragge 1.5
draft 5.5
save for season 3.5
AD in your example 7.5
Stallworth 4 mil
Leaves us w/ 5 mil... not enough to have a ton of cap left, let alone signing a few more FAs.

I'd like that too, but if you're arguing about my statement (not sure if you are), he said few FA and have a ton of money left. Not true, correct?

I think drafting a 2nd round corner and getting Stallworth instead of clements is a better option.Clements is just going to cost way too much to take that risk.

Actually both Jeff Garcia and Donte Stallworth were both on NFL Total Access on Tues or Monday and Donte said his # 1 choice is the Niners, but is also looking at the Patriots, Miami, Cleveland and the Eagles. He's from Nor Cal so I could see him taking a lesser offer (not too much lower) from the Niners to play in CA.
Garcia says he is hoping to sign with a contender, doesnt mind being a backup but of course prefers a starting role.

The offer that was spouted from Rosenhaus was seven years 35 million and a 15 million dollar signing bonus. I guess he is starting the bidding pretty high......:hide:
And if you don't think he will/might get that much look at what Randle El got last year........

5 mil a year is about right..........the signing bonus is another story but the base salary seems OK. I hope he plans on shaving a couple of years off the back end of the contract though.
