It is only fitting that when the 49ers get their long awaited new stadium in 4 or 5 years, in some way the field should be recognized as Walsh Field, in honor of the greatest coach in Niner history. I know that in todays world of Corporate Sponser Stadiums, that usually carry the name of their sponsorship, but that does not mean the field can't carry a name in honor of this coach.

I wonder is there a way to start an online one here, then maybe some of the members that live in the bay area could get some petititions started in area stores.

Nice sentiment. Never happen. Stadium naming rights fees are ridiculously lucrative. He may get a similar but lesser honor in the new stadium, but I think Rice a Roni park is more likely than Walsh Field.

Seriously, I'm all for honoring coach Walsh in this fitting manner.

I disagree with you I think that Walsh is the great coach in the history of the Nfl. He took the worst franchise in the Nfl and through his ingenuity crafted one of the most dominant dynastys in the history of Sports

I wanna see statues out front or maybe throughout the stadium concourse of Montana with his hands raised high, and of Coach Walsh wearing the headset and of Ronnie Lott, and of course a Jerry Rice statue would be nice too. Maybe a Steve Young statue, and maybe a Dwight Clark statue of him re-enacting the catch so it may be enshrined forever. I go watch the Tigers in Comerica park roughly 15 times per year, since I live 45 minutes from Detroit, and they have around 7-8 statues of the same type in their outfield, including on of Ernie Harwell in the main concourse area. Very inspiring.

go niners!

count me in. (walsh filed + statue). so start it now! and if there is some kind of sick fee for naming a FIELD then every signature should be accompanied by a $ donation....if this picks up, it could go national!

Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati and Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland bucked the idea of selling the naming rights, prior to the selections of their respective stadium names. You can also add in that Jack Kent Cooke Stadium was the name of the Redskins' stadium under its former ownership -- Mr. Snyder decided to sell out the name to FedEx when he bought the team.

So... Bill Walsh Stadium, or any other non-corporate name for the stadium, CAN happen IF the 49ers want it to.
