1.) Does the fact that TB now picks 4th make it more of a possibility to get him? Or would they still demand the picks they would've demanded w/ #3?
2.) Would TB (or maybe CLE if necessary) do it? Would people be opposed to trading our 1st this year and next year to get him?
To start, I'll answer the above questions as if they were someone else's.
1.) Maybe a little, but because they would probably get Calvin at 3 or 4, the demand for their pick doesn't go down a lot.
2.) I think TB would do that. They'd have a shot at some good players they need at 11. Levi Brown, Adam Carriker, LaRon Laundry, and Reggie Nelson are all players they need, and would likely be able to choose from at least 2 of them. Plus, they'd have our 1st next year. I'd like that trade. Still be able to build our defense. W/ a good draft and FA period for our D along w/ Calvin on our Offensive unit:dance2:  , our first would be in the much later part of the draft anyway, 'cause we'd go deep in the playoffs

Not worth trading up to get him at 4th, but I still don't think he's a lock at that Tampa pick. They need defense a lot more than they need a reciever, and Gaines Adams, Jamaal Anderson, and Alan Branch will all still be available. And I also think it's still possible Detroit goes with Brady Quinn, leaving Tampa with the option of Joe Thomas.
If Calvin Johnson drops to 6, then it is definitely worth trading up to get him. And Washington will be willing to trade, cause they need the extra picks and there will still be good defensive talent at 11 for them to choose from.
Great thought, I've had some of those same thoughts. too. Knowing Dan Snyder, we could get the 6th by trading Kwame and Sammy Davis.

Except Snyder isn't the one who makes that call. If anything can be said about WAS's front office is that they don't respect the draft but this year it must be different. They're strapped for cap space so their best option is to build with draft picks, not trade them away for players they cannot afford.

You don't think they could afford Davis or Kwame? Davis or Kwame would cost less than CJ anyway. Now don't get me wrong, they won't trade the pick for Davis or Kwame, but if that's the argument, then I'm right, correct? ...Did I beat the Wiz in an arguement? If so, screw CJ, I'm the smartest man on this board if I can beat you!:nana:
But anyway, since you're on here Wiz, do you think if CJ drops to WSH, we should trade up?

I honestly like your first thought, depending on how FA goes for us. If we get Thomas and Clements, then maybe trade 1st and 1st next for CJ at #4. WIth all of our picks this year, and a solid draft we would be in excellent shape regardless.

Really, first person not to call me some sort of idot, let alone agree w/ this idea. Makes good sense to me

I want a big, prime time receiver. If he falls a bit I wouldn't mind pushing for him at all. But I have a feeling he'll run a 4.35 and people will be talking 1.1 not 1.4.

If we traded our first and next years first you could consider us "had" at the 4 spot. Thats way too much to pin on CJ, and a horrible deal value wise for the amount and position your trading too. You really want to mortgage the franchise this year on a player who will likely only put up average numbers his first season or two? I'm not saying a trade for CJ is a bad move but earlier than 6 is and even thats a stretch imo, but possible. If TB wants him you wont get a fair trade in that spot so you'd likely have to go to #3 then your talking at minimum 3 first day picks plus a future pick. This team cant afford to make a deal like that no matter what moves in FA we make. The DL would get no immediate help, neither would the S position unless somebody fell to us in the second, we'd be locked into another HUGE contract for a rookie (4 first round contracts in 2 drafts) not to mention the collective amount we would be paying AT and Nate.

Sweet. Is this why I got my first 5 rep points? SWEET :dootdoot:
Again, I like the idea. With the cap room, and the possibility of making our defense so much better with just 2 guys, I fully believe we can afford to lose our first next year, especially since it will be the last pick of the 1st rouns since we are winning the SUPER BOWL!! well, we'll see about that part.
If we can get CJ this year with a reasonable trade, just think of our core offense for the next several years, Gore, Davis, CJ and Alex.

I respectfully disagree. It's obvious the higher you trade up, the more you pay, but in the example given by Kobe, it was trade this years and next years first rounds for CJ. It doesn't matter at all if it is 4th or 6th. I was just commenting on his specific example. I would love getting CJ, but only if our defense gets fixed via FA and the rest of our draft this year. It can be done with a good 2nd-4th round this year.

You hit it right on the head, 4.35 is amazing for a guy that big. He now can be considered the greatest WR prospect in NFL draft history. If we had any way of getting this guy I would do it in a second, no doubt about it.

The point was 2 first round picks (assuming we will win the SB or even counting on the fact we would be a playoff team is not wise) to move up to #4 is too much no mater what value chart you use, besides the false logic that a team as bad as TB or CLE would move that far back would do it for only 1 pick in this years draft. Both teams need to win now, and a trade like that would only be done by a contender that wanted to work its cap and save some space. Your idea was Nate and Thomas (Aprox. 15-17 million off the cap) + CJ @ 4 which is around 5 million. At best your talking about having to sign the rest of our draft picks + the free agents + the extentions and bringing back guys on our team + leaving enough room to sign a guy during the season in case of injury with less than 17 million. Thats not gonna work financially. Plain and simple IF you wanted to do the deal for CJ you would only be able to pick up 1 defensive guy. Thats the point we cant have it all so whats worth more CJ or the second defensive player?

CJ is more important than Gore, we should trade him to CLE straight up. Heck maybe they throw in Green or Droughns then we get THIS YEARS REGGIE BUSH WAHOOOOOOO!

Naw, naw... you got it wrong! Here's how the 2007 draft should look for the niners:
SF trades QB Alex Smith, OLB Manny Lawson, RB Frank Gore, TE Vernon Davis, their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 4th, 4th, 5th, 6th and a 1st next year for the #1 overall pick.
Rd1: WR Calvin "God" Johnson.
Rd2: Well, there's no pick here, but we've got Calvin Johnson!
Rd3: Uh, again no pick... no worries, Calvin Johnson is ours!
Rd4: No pick? No problem! CJ!
Rd4: Who cares about some mid tier dude when you have THE dude?
Rd4: Whatever. Calvin Johnson baby!
Rd5: OMG no pick but OMOMOMOMOMG Calvin Johnson in red and gold!!
Rd6: Who cares? Calvin Johnson will win games for us!
As for who's gonna throw and run the ball, Calvin Johnson can do that. Calvin Johnson will receive a direct snap and carry the ball on running plays, and on passing plays, Calvin Johnson will throw deep passes, run down the field and catch his own passes!!!
Calvin Johnson, OMG!!!!!!
