I'll be really happy if we take him, Higgins, or Hill in the 3rd.

Higgins may be the only one available in round 3.

Perhaps. I'd still be happy though :hangloose:

I don't think Steve Smith will be around the 3rd round at all, after his 40 time. Geez, I'm a huge USC fan and supporter (if you guys couldn't tell by now), and even I would have never guessed he was THAT fast; I did think he was a lot faster than people were giving him credit for, but I thought he'd end up running like a mid 4.4
I would love for us to grab him with our 2nd round pick. As polished of a WR as any prospect in the draft, the only thing he lacks is great size, which, as well know, means nothing if your fast and know how to play.
Higgins may be the only one available in round 3.
That's why we have to get Calvin Johnson at all costs!

so you feel comfortable giving up our next first round(or more) and a bunch of our day 1 picks? i don't. CJ's obviously something special, but for a team like ours that has many holes to fill, sacrificing as many high picks as it would take would most likely set back our chances of becoming a complete team overall. there will be some fine prospects available to us in the second or third round that could easily have a great impact on our offense without jeopardizing our rebuilding efforts.
besides, i wouldn't be suprised at all to see the raiders end up making some moves to get a QB via trade or free agency and draft johnson with the first pick.

Every night before he goes to sleep, the boogeyman checks in his closet to make sure Calvin Johnson isn't there.

It's Calvin Johnson!
and we're a team that gave up the most points in the league last year, had a pass rush that allowed QBs to take their time picking apart our medicore secondary, linebackers that often failed to tackle the opposing running back, and a defense that allowed 44.4% of third down plays convert to a first (4th worst in the league). meanwhile our offense improved from last season, usually putting up enough points to win games had our defense not allowed teams to score all over us.
bottom line is, there are plenty of good recivers in this draft that can help our offense continue to improve. trading our future first and many other valuable picks is foolish and almost redskinesque.

No "good" receiver would help us as much as CALVIN JOHNSON!!!!!!

that might be true. however sacrificing the number of high picks it would take to draft him could hurt our team a lot more.

Seems to me the entire timing process is suspect at this combine. :hide:

Normally I'd agree with you, but all the times seem fast this year. I've never seen anywhere near this many sub 4.4 times especially for non-corners, and I don't happen to believe that this is just the fastest class ever. I think it speaks to how much better they are getting at speed training for the combine.

You make it seem as if there is some kinda "40 yard dash" conspiracy going on. The times are still legit, they have no reason to hype them up further, because all the different owners wanna know EXACTLY what their product they'd be investing has to offer. I don't buy that "fast track" crap that I hear some people throwin around; pretty much all these faciliities are top notch and you might see the difference in a couple hundredths of a second if anything.
It's just a combination of athletic evolution, advancements in sports training as well advancements in the supplement industry.

you clearly misunderstood his post. he was simply saying that these guys dont play that fast on the field and their 40 times look better than they should because these guys work with track coaches and treat the 40 as more of a track even than ever.
I get what he means, I wasn't tryin to make it seem like I'm comin at him any sort of way. A lot of these guys that I hear about, to be honest, I haven't really seen play in college and stuff. Like Higgins, Hill, those guys. As far as Smith goes, when you look back on his games you see that he's always been able to outrun the coverage downfield and be out, so although I didn't think he would run that fast of a 40, it doesn't shock me when you look at what he did.
But I know what y'all mean; the 40 time is the single most coveted measureable at the combine and everyone is very enamored with it. These guys aren't dumb and know that just be focusing on something as silly as track form and pure straight running for a few months is gonna be the difference hundreds of thousands and millions.

Steve Smith probably has a very good agent, who "unofficially" timed him at 4.37 and told everyone in the press how fast his guy is! :yikes:
