Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who opted to run the 40-yard dash with his group just minutes before it walked to the starting line, astounded everyone in attendance at the NFL scouting combine on Sunday by gliding to a time between 4.31 and 4.35 seconds.
What NFL Corner will cover him?
a beast he should jump a 45 inch vertical also he now ways 240 pounds 5 heavier than his days at georgia tech just think of what your dealing with a 5'9 cornerback against a 6'5 240 pound reciever

there are 32 teams that would love to have him. While IMO a good WR would impact the team more than any one defensive player could help us right now, we'd be giving up more than one potential starter in draft picks we'd be trading for the guy. Don't think it is a good idea.

Fixed. And I definately want Calvin, but we can get him at #4, which would save a little $ signing him, and cost less to get the pick.

He's impressive, and he'll likely be a good or great pro, but we've got to let this one go. There will be other young impact WRs somewhere down the line, and let's go after them when the other needs aren't so glaring.

yeah let's go D-LINE in the first, and Jason Hill in the second!

How many threads do we need to ask the same question?

Who is covering Troy Williamson? He was even FASTER! Why isn't he getting 30 yards bombs every game?
When will people get it through their heads that 40 speed doesn't mean anything! For the Love of God, trust me in that he is really no faster than the half a dozen or so players who also had sub 4.3 times and he ran a rather weak front 10 compared to that group! :banghead: :banghead:

As many as possible. GO CJ!

Not long. I would say about 2 weeks now.

So what you're saying is a player who is fast can only get open if he's tall, heavy, and can jump high from a flat footed stance? Quick, someone go tell this to Steve Smith, he's breaking the rules at Carolina! Oh wait, so there is a lot more to being a WR? So, speed doesn't guarantee anything and plenty of players produce withouit being 6'5", 240 lbs, and jumping high. Actually, being all three things has never helped Calico. That cat ran a 4.34 dash, is 6'4", and is a very lean and well built 222 and was drafted in the 2nd round after he got labeled as the "next TO". So he was fast, tall, very strong, and yet he's not putting up 1.2k yards per season. Shall we go on?
Despite what the message boards are saying, he's not a "can't miss prospect". Bush came in at 5.8-6.0 on well over 90% of all reports I saw, which is eventual all pro and canton type of abilities. Johnson is so far just a workout warrior who had a great senior year who has flaws in his game who is the best in this WR class because he's got a better package. He's a low 5 range from what I've seen.

Cost less, but still too much.

I would rather trade down and take Robert Meachem who in my opinion is a better WR than Johnson. He's more explosive and has a better feel for the game. He knows where everyone is on the field and is able to make his way though traffic. Johnson to me....is not as explosive.

problem is meachem ran a blazing 4.36 and if we move back we may miss him because i think he will be top 15

I wouldn't mind taking Meachem. His name is wack but oh well. I just want a big receiver.
