so he is the 2nd player reported to have talked with the 49ers.

The first one was Florida State Linebacker Lawrence Timmons.

From Carriker's Q&A session at the Combine:

(49ers)
Yeah, I talked to them last night. They seemed to like me, especially being a 3-4 team. I'm a good size for a 3-4 end. They just wanted to find out about me, my personal history, my family, if I've been in any trouble, anything like that.

(deal with them at Senior Bowl)
On Thursday night before the game all the South players went with the North team coaches and us North team players went with the South coaches, the 49ers, and we all sat aorund a table and talked to the D-line coach for about 45 minutes.

(prefer 4-3 end)
It really doesn't matter to me. Whatever teams want me to do. I did it at Nebraska, had no problem with it. If they want me to play 3-tech, if they want me to play d-end, whatever, I don't care.

(shift inside on pass downs)
That's one thing teams like about me is my versatility. Even some teams, maybe playing nose a few plays. I can do any of that. I played nose in a few 3-4 schemes we ran this year against Missouri and Auburn. I know the Niners are interested, the Steelers like me. It's hard to differentiate; a lot of teams don't want to show you, they don't want anyone else to know.

yep......both Nolan and CJ were in the bathroom at the same time and accidentally bumped into each other. it was an in depth conversation that went like this:

CJ: "oh excuse me"

Nolan: "make sure you wash your hands"

what a conversation, must mean Nolan really likes him.

Oh man were so interested in him!! :flex: :flex:

Is there any chance Carriker goes before we pick? That would be horrible.

Mon, 26 Feb 2007 21:22:42 -0800

During his NFL Combine interview, Florida DE Jarvis Moss said he spoke with the San Francisco 49ers.

Nice OLB candidate if we somehow don't get AT.

ATL needs a LDE

Please, this really can't happen to us, not right now :mouthclosed: . If this is a danger, we have to use a 4th and trade up to get him. There is no better player for our D.

To those who know about the 3-4 and the draft, Okoye means nothing to the 49ers. He is a guy that we won't pick, that is all he is.

im just saying that i think okoye will be drafted before us and carriker wont be.

i want us to draft carriker over okoye also, however alot of niner fans feel just the opposite.

Did anyone else see Carriker announce the wrong college before doing his bench reps?

He came up and announced his name and said he was from the University of Texas. The trainer then corrected him and you can tell he felt like an *****.

I guess he's not the sharpest tool in the shed.....

I really hope he was kidding when he said Texas. If not, looks like we have another Dexter Manley in the NFL.

He wasn't.......it was just a mistake.

I was cracking up when it happened, but I don't think it means he's stupid or anything.......probably just really nervous.

We'll just have to wait till the Wonderlic scores are released......watch he score like a 6.......

not really. Carriker isn't much of a 4-3 DE prospect because he isn't enough of a speed rusher. in a 4-3 he may even need to move inside to DT. Carriker is a much better 3-4 DE prospect. i just dont see him realistically going before we pick.

In a 43 Carriker could shed some weight and be an Aaron Kampman. Force vs the run and a good pass rusher.

Actually he could stay at the weight he is and play DT in a 4-3.

Wrong. Okoye fits fine at 3-4 DE. Compare his measurables to Carriker and tell me why Carriker is the mold for the position and Okoye can't even play it.

Yeah, how on earth would the guy earn a living at DT weighing only 296 pounds with good upper body strength?

Something cadillac guy and I can agree on; Carriker will be there at #11.

Sorry if this has been cut and pasted before:

Adam Carriker, Nebraska. High-rising talent that opted to return for his senior campaign and after a slow start during the season, it has paid dividends. His combination of size (nearly 6-foot-6, 285-290 pounds) and strength made him an even more valued prospect coming away from the Senior Bowl practices as teams now feel that he can line up in a variety of roles, including 4-3 RDE, 3-4 DE and inside at the under-tackle position.

Carriker dominates the line of scrimmage with his upper body strength and capacity to collapse the pocket as a bull rusher. He works best when lined up over or inside an opposing blocker as he lacks the sudden quickness to be consistently effective as an edge rusher. He plays with great intensity, is very smart on the field, holds contain and is rarely put out of position. He can be a little stiff at times, but is able to anchor his side of the line on most downs and creates separation from blockers by using his long arms.

He will be a very good long-term addition to a locker room because he brings maturity and a team-oriented sense about him. His ability to play throughout the line and his impressive wins in 1-on-1 battles in Mobile, Ala., have pushed him up towards the top-half of the first round. He is clearly the top-rated defensive end for a 3-4 scheme team or ones that would like to install a version of that into their defensive philosophy.
