View Full Version : Madden-like but crazy enough to work?

Don't try to get my head on a plate, this is mostly just to see what people think, not what I think we should do (unless it can happen exactly like this). It is very much Madden-like, but hey, who knows?
Trade Gore to Browns for #3.
Draft Calvin at #3
Trade #11 and our 2nd for #7 (Min)
Draft Adrian Peterson at #7
I think these picks would be there when we drafted. Russel #1, Thomas #2, Calvin #3, and no one needs a RB (TB, ARZ, WSH) until 8 (HOU), which is why we go to 7.
Peterson would have more speed than Gore, along w/ a less injured history. Peterson's contract would also likely be a little less than Gore's new one. And on top of that, we get Calvin as a WR.
Once again, not really thinking this would happen, very Madden-like. Mostly a time-killer until FA starts. Thoughts?

I don't think Minnesota would take that deal, and we'd be absolutely retarded to trade a bonafide ProBowl, franchise tailback for guys who could very well be Troy Williamson and Cedric Benson rather than Roy Williams and LaDainian Tomlinson.

Peterson would have more speed than Gore
speed isn't everything, it's all about power running, or else Derrick Blalock would be a top-ten back
along w/ a less injured history
peterson has had injuries(fractured clavicle, high ankle sprain), and has had durrability concerns
Peterson's contract would also likely be a little less than Gore's new one
gore is worth the money we will be payting him, i'd rather not lock a ton of money into another rookie.
And on top of that, we get Calvin as a WR
ugh, im so sick of cj

If it was Madden, I would do it. But it's the real world where you simply do not trade franchise players unless you already have someone on the roster that you think can produce almost as well. Not to mention the insanity of trading the only player on the team that gets us any national media attention. Might as well suggest San Diego trade Shawne Merriman, or Pittsburgh trade Troy Polamalu.

Trade away the best player on our team?
It's genius!
Wonder what we could get for Nolan...maybe two subpar coaches?

Thank you, I needed a good laugh after today! So, we should only trade a 1,700 yard RB for an equally suspect college RB and a completely unproven workout warrior? Where is the part where Peterson can take a hit and Johnson can beat a press coverage on any form of underneath route come in? Really?! Holy cow, if we're going to succumb to this type of speculation, lets trade Alex Smith as well and draft Jamarcus Russell. He is is bigger, heavier, and has a stronger arm! Let's spit on league rules and trade our '09 1st rounder for him!

Unfortunately now Cleveland have read your post, and realized that they can just trade down to #7 so Minnesota can draft Calvin, draft Adrian Peterson and gain a quality pick or two in the process.
You gave away the secret plan. I'm not that upset, though, since it was still a plan predicated on completely screwing over our defense.

This wouldn't even work in madden. 100% would never work in real life.

Wouldn't happen but Gore had one good year don't assume Petterson would be a dud compared to Gore. It's too much of a stretch but to somehow get the #1 rb and #1 wr in the draft for your current rb and a 2nd rnd wouldn't be a bad deal at all. Obviously its a risk. Oh and as far as PR if the 49ers made a move like that and then also picked up AT and another big name free agent we'd have more press than we have in years...prob since TO. CJ will be the new reggie bush for the media and petterson could blow up in no time also.

Lol. Creative idea but the truth of it is: If we were working with madden, we would let Cleveland pick Peterson let Tampa pick Johnson then on the first week of the season we would trade Gore to Cleveland for Peterson and a 2nd round pick then trade Antonio Bryant plus the pick to Tampa for Johnson.... much better deal. We still get to draft Okoye or Laundry and we got the 3 top people at their position in the draft. Turn injury off on the controlls and let Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson break all the records for 3 years then trade them each for a new guys that have better speed agility and jump so we can make those guys better....In fact I should be the niners GM I am so good ;)

I've found draft picks in that game tend to be less valuable than the players they are used on. Example: evey year during the season, off er your first pick for a 1st and a 2nd. You'll get 17 offers. Same for your second for a 2 + 3.

Too high of cap implications and your overpaying for Minny's pick. I wouldnt give up more than a third and a late second day pick to move up to 7.
