View Full Version : VD? How about Holati Ngata or Broderick Bunkley?

I know, most everyone here has fallen in love with VD, but there's a possibility that he'll be selected before we're on the clock at #6. If that's the case, and AJ Hawk is also gone, I think our next best value pick would be a defensive lineman. There are two elite prospects out there worthy of a top-ten selection, Holati Ngata and Broderick Bunkley.

Ngata is a true nose tackle. Anthony Adams is a very good lineman, but he's much better suited as a 4-3 DT. Ngata would be a serious upgrade over Adams. Sopoaga seems to be the heir apparent at NT, but I'd honestly like to see him play 3-4 RDE because of the mismatch problems he'd create. Imagine both Ngata and Sopoaga in the middle, BOTH drawing double teams.

Bunkley could also play 3-4 RDE, while Sopoaga could remain at NT. I'm not sure this would create the same amount of havoc that Ngata and Sopoaga could wreak, but it would be very effective nonetheless. Douglas is not as effective as he used to be, but he'd still be great off the bench. He could also man the LDE position once BY retires.

So what's you're preference, and why? Personally, I'd love to see a starting 3-4 defensive line of BY, Ngata, and Sopoaga -- 3 players that could easily stuff the run, and each capable of drawing double-teams. Imagine how much that would free up our linebackers to get to the QB. I truly believe that lineup would create mismatches that opposing coaches would have to plan for. S'up?

Im also a fan of Ngata and think he would anchor the line for years. Moving Sopo to DE would be a good Move. It would be hard for teams to run on us. And I agree it will free up the LBS to rush the QB making the job a little easier for our CBS.

Ngata because i think he is more of a freakish athleet than Bunkley. Thus i would pick him at the number 6 spot. Also i haven't heard much about bunkley but i didn't think he was projected to go that high... so he might be a reach at 6.

All that said i still hope Vernon Davis is there for us to take him.

In the catastrophic event that we trade down between 10 and 15, I think Ngata is a perfect pick. I don't believe either of them are worthy to be in the top 10.

Ngata is a run stuffer, not a pass rusher, and doesn't give a ish about his weight. Be careful......

if we traded down a few spots i would have no problem taking ngata.
6'4 340 bls nothing but double AND triple teamed in college. mamoth stregth, put up 37 reps on the bench press. he would do wonders for our DL and eat up bodies all day.

Agreed. I'm not too high on Ngata. I just have a bad feeling him. Bunkley on the other hand I think is going to be a STUD and would be the pass rusher that we really need.

I'd have Bunkley than Ngata, but i'd rather have Huff than the both of them.

Hate the idea of drafting a safety in the top-ten. Who's he going to shut down? How will he make offensive coordinators change their game plan? We'd have to switch him to CB, and I honestly believe there are better cornerbacks in this draft. I think both Ngata or Bunkley would change how an opposing OC game plans against us. Running up the middle would be almost impossible, and a decision will have to be made on how to defend the pass rush since multiple players on the line would require double-teams.

Huff is a wasted pick, IMO.

Sure, we need pass-rushers, but who should we draft in the top-ten? I think it's pretty obvious we're going to draft someone at #22 (or later) who can rush the passer, but none of the DE/OLB tweeners I've seen would merit a top-ten pick. I think we also need pass-rushers from the DE position, and I'm asking what our best option would be. Draft Ngata, and move Sopoaga over to RDE? Or draft Bunkley and start him at RDE?

I know the Eagles are very high on Bunkley. I would much rather see him drafted then Ngata, but then again, every time I make a guess the Eagles FO does a 180 turn on me. Fat Andy will probably draft a cheesesteak fluffer in the first round, and if I see Freddie Mitchell part II (Santanio Holmes) I'm flying to Philly to climb a clock tower with a bolt action rifle.....

I've started to sour on Huff a bit too. Not saying I wouldn't want him. Bunkley at DE in a 3-4 is an interesting thought though. Is a 3-4 end worth that high a pick though? I don't know.

Glad somebody mentioned Bunkley as a posibility. He's very similar to BY and would be great at end for us. I have him ranked ahead of both Huff and Ferguson for SF.

If we can't get VD with our #6 then we should trade down 4-6 spots and then take Ngata or Bunkley. I would love to see either one of them on our line and love the idea of Ngata and Sopo at the same time. As big as opposing O-Lines are getting we need 320-340 pounders at the nose and 300-320 pounders at the ends in a 3-4.
