I think we should sign Ed Hartwell. We don't have to sign him to an impressive contract, just a contract to get him into training camp and see what he's got. That's what the offseason is for right, to try out guys and see how they fit in the sceme. If they last through the cuts, they're on the team and you have experienced depth if nothing else. If not, you lost nothing by trying them out.

You're making a huge assumption here... how do you know hartwell will play for such a small contract? Just a couple years ago he was thought of as a top-tier MLB, now you want to sign him for a minimum salary... his ego may dictate otherwise. In theory it bringing in hartwell for cheap would be a good idea, but only if he costs at a maximum 3.5 a year. We have no indication that he'd be willing to play for that, especially in todays NFL where fullbacks are getting 12 million dollar signing bonuses.

The guy has to agree to the contract. Throwing money at his feet doesn't guarantee that he will sign and there's something to lose if he doesn't work out.......wasted time and the signing bonus.

I'd still like to give him a shot. Hartwell was great in days with the Ravens.

I agree if he signs for a reasonable amount I would definetely bring him in and see what he has left. He could be a steal at a bargain price.

I would rather have Hartwell over Cyclops & Brich.

Hartwell doesn't have the kind of leverage that these 12 million dollar fullbacks have. He now, after the past two seasons, has a reputation of being a injury prone player. He has an opportunity to prove otherwise by signing. No, I don't expect him to sign for the league minimum, but it's a supply and demand type deal, and as you can see by scheduled visits for each team, there is not much of a demand for him.
