About the going rate really Thomas was valued at a third in the bears trade with the Jets so this is just slightly higher.

That's so stupid.buffalo is remarkable..
I think it's more of a good trade for Buffalo. You can find a reliable RB easily, and gaining two third rounders for someone they had no leverage on...
so they gave up a 3rd, 7th, and a 3rd next year. not bad too bad, but they will still have to re-sign him to that monster contract he is looking for.
mcgahee is pretty good RB, but we all know who the best back from the U is...

actually its even better for the Bills
The Bills have reportedly dealt Willis McGahee to the Ravens in exchange for Baltimore's third- and seventh-round picks this year, and their third-round pick in 2008.

I'd say for what the market wants to bear for RB's they got a great deal.
The News
The Ravens have acquired running back Willis McGahee from the Bills in exchange for a package of draft picks, according to ESPN.com. The deal will reportedly send McGahee to Baltimore for the Ravens' third- and seventh-round picks this April and Baltimore's third-round pick in 2008.
Our View
With Jamal Lewis out of the picture the Ravens needed a back, and the Bills were aggressively shopping McGahee. With the move they get a back who is two years younger and has almost 1,000 fewer NFL carries; however, with McGahee set to become a free agent following the 2007 season and the Ravens not exactly flush with cap space, three picks seems like a relatively steep price to pay.

wow Baltimore is dumb. all they had to do is wait for McGahee to hold out and get that punk of a RB for just a 3rd rounder. B-More got ripped off hard.
I think a 3rd and a 7th ain't bad for a quality starter like McGahee...I mean, welker was a 2nd and a 7th!!!
McGahee has proven that he can be healthy too....and he still got some zip on those wheels (that zip will be gone once he starts playing in the Ravens run them 40 times offense).

Ravens probably didn't want to take a chace and miss out. Good deal for Buffalo indeed.

I completely disagree, Baltimore has filled a huge need after J Lewis's departure and got younger and better at the position. The chance of picking up a player of Mcgahee's calibur in the 3rd rd is very slim. I expect him to have a big year in Baltimore. I do think the Jets got a better deal but I prefer Mcgahee over T. Jones.

After losing Clements and McGahee, and now talk of Takeo Spikes leaving as well, can this team really compete??? I'm glad our guys are adding talent rather than cleaning house. We had those days, and hopefully they are behind us for a while. I wouldn't expcet Buffalo to win more than MAYBE 4 games next season.

Ravens Talkin' 'Bout Willis
The Ravens hope Willis McGahee can revive a running game that's fallen from first in 2003 to 25th last year.

It took all of a day for the Ravens to shake off the loss of their franchise's career rushing leader, and Baltimore believes they have upgraded by replacing Jamal Lewis by acquiring Willis McGahee from the Bills.
The Deal: The Ravens will send a total of three draft picks to the Bills in exchange for McGahee, according to the Baltimore Sun. The package includes Baltimore's third- and seventh-round selections in 2007 as well as their third-round pick in 2008.
The Stat: Since Lewis' monster 2003 season, in which he rushed for 2,066 yards, McGahee has both outgained (3,365 to 3,044) and outscored (24 touchdowns to 19) his predecessor in Baltimore.
The Quote: "We're getting a dynamic back who has the potential to diversify our running game," Ravens coach Brian Billick told the Baltimore Sun.
Fantasy Analysis: The former first-round pick is coming off the worst of his three NFL seasons, rushing for just 990 yards (at a 3.8 yards-per-carry clip) and scoring six touchdowns. He also missed two games with ankle problems, the first time since coming back from the devastating knee injury that ended his college career that McGahee hasn't played in all 16 games.
Supports point to the Bills' shoddy offensive line as one of the reasons McGahee's numbers dipped last season, but with the recent release of veteran guard Edwin Mulitalo it's clear the Ravens aren't exactly a bastion of stability up front, either.
Still, the Ravens believe they have upgraded, and the price they were willing to pay suggests that they intend to sign the potential free agent to a contract extension. McGahee is two years younger that Lewis, but perhaps more importantly he has almost 1,000 fewer NFL carries.
The Ravens recently re-signed backup running back Musa Smith, and they still have former Bronco Mike Anderson on the roster as well. They were also expected to pursue one of the bigger backs in the draft, perhaps Louisville's Michael Bush in the first or second round. Now, however, this is shaping up to be McGahee's show.
There's little question McGahee will get his work; after all, Jamal averaged 20 carries per game as a Raven, despite sharing the backfield with, among others, Anderson, Chester Taylor, and Priest Holmes. In every season in which he stayed healthy for 16 games, Jamal received at least 300 carries; McGahee has reached that mark just once in his three seasons.
And if he can hold up to the workload and the Ravens' replacement offensive linemen fill in admirably… hey, maybe McGahee can churn out the sort of 1,200-yard, six-touchdown season Jamal has posted in five of his six years in Baltimore.
Of course, there's also the chance Willis goes for 2K. And we're talking yardage, not offspring
