You think we should get a new style of uniforms? If so, how would they look? I heard the chargers got new ones...I think maybe we could get a combination of the classic throwback/current style uniforms if that were to happen. What do you think?:sf49:

Yeah, the ones we have now are fine. I'm just curious as to how the new style would look like. Probably might not happen for awhile though....

I think the 49ers unis are the best looking in the league, but when they wear the throw-backs I think they look even better. I could deal with new unis if they made them look like the throwbacks.

I have gone back and forth with myself on this ( living San Diego, I dont have many 9er fans to talk to lol ) After much debate, even though I do love the old unis we gotta move forward. This is a new day and age for the 49ers. I can almost guarantee that if the Niners go on and win 5 more superbowls, with the current unis we would consider them a classic and not want to divert from using them.

our jerseys are one of the exiest ones in the league

The only teams with better jerseys are the Jaguars and Texans,

I think we should get new ones simply because it would tell our guys that we are a new team. It would be a nice message to the team that we are not the same team TD was in charge of.

We are not the glory days teams and hopefully a new look will wake some of our fans who love to live in the past.

And no, I do not want the NEW unis to look remotely like the old school unis simply because I think the shade of red is repulsive. I would rather have a brand new look altogether than revert to the old style.

I refuse to buy any jerseys until we announce the new style for our uniforms. Nolan has already come out as disliking the current style, and as it's been said, rules stipulate a 2 year process to change the uniforms. I figure next year we will have new ones.

Right now there aren't any throwbacks for current players besides Davis. My wife wanted to buy me a $250 jersey for my birthday, but I refused for the fact that the jerseys that are out now are all going to be obsolete in a year anyways. I'll stick with my red and white Young jersey until then. Or until they bring back the Gore throwbacks.

i believe you just stated all that was said.. Along with the fact that York would have to approve it and it takes approx 16months to go into effect. So in essence it wouldnt be until after this coming season if it happens at all

there will be no new jersey. i like them both (home & away). the throwback game was a nice idea too. anyway, i saw this jersey on madden (06) that ive never seen them play in and it would be cool for them to wear it at least once just for kicks . primary color is gold with red and white outlining, i remember correctly. (if they have played in that jersey before can someone tell me when.)i think ive seen it as merchendise. i know it looks ugly but so does san diego's baby blue jersey.

Fellow Faithful,
I've been waiting a long time to voice my opinion on our unis...First of all, the so called "throwback" jerseys aren't throwback. Rather, they are the true identity of the 49ers on the field. I know there are a lot of young Niner fans out there that aren't used to the original look, but all the true fans that love the Niners know that the uniforms they(we) have now, are just a cookie cutter look design from Reebok. Don't believe me? Well, one of the tell-tale signs is that the team logo is always on the sleeve, interrupting the stripes (on most of the teams that decided to change their unis). The look they have now is very much corporate to me, meaning they look more like a product instead of the originality of an NFL team. I know that ultimately, wins are more important, but when you take away our team's look, you take away part of their soul. York should've NEVER *****ed with our team's unis and especially not the logo. What's this gold outline doing in our logo with a white outline after the black outline? And the width of the outline was even messed with; thicker on the sides and thin on top and bottom --It's all BS. Bring our team back it's true identity.

You can't blame York for the uniform change.

Eddie D changed it in 1996 and we wore the current uniforms but white pants for 2006-2007 and then added the gold pants in 1998.

hopefully York corrects this and brings back the 1989 uniforms unaltered.

Why does everyone call the throwback unis "1989"? That uniform design was established in the early 1960's, had a few minor adjustments like the stripes on the pants widened in 1976, a minor adjustment to the helmet logo in 1987.

The pants were gold, not white back then. They went to white in 1996, back to gold in 1998.

It's not about style, or keeping up with the trends. It's about tradition and identity! The true classic teams don't mess with colors or logo's. Someone pointed out we should update our look similar to what the Cardinals did last year. Are you kidding?? A team with the rich tradition and history like the 49ers copy what the freaking Cardinals are doing???

Yeah, maybe the Yankees or Giants should copy what the Tampa Bay Devil Rays are creating every couple years! (No identity)

If you want each team to have the same alternate black tops and matching bottoms, change colors and logo's every 3 years, switch to Arena football.

The "1989" refers to the wideness of the 3 stripes on the sleeve...it is the first Super Bowl year that those took effect, before that, the sleeve stripes were wider, as evident in the 81 and 84 Super Bowl teams. The thinner stripes were phased in on certain players jerseys in the years after SB XIX, with just about all jerseys sporting them by 1989...I think the "1989" term was coined by Mitchell and Ness to refer to that particular 49er jersey style. Curious, what adjustment was made to the helmet logo in '87?

As for uni changes I echo what has been said before about bringing back the real 49ers uniforms. Whether or not you like them, they are the uniforms from the dynasty era of the 49ers, the time when teams actually feared us, and we competed for the championship every year. Why wouldn't you want to wear that tradition? Why would you want a uniform that looks like a mirror image of the Buccaneers, the Falcons, or the Cardinals? Are you kidding? The real 49ers uniforms may be plain and simple, but they are traditional and classic, much like the Yankee pinstripes, or the Celtic green. I assure you, that when the 49ers were winning Super Bowls, no one talked about changing the uniforms, they were changed as a marketing ploy, and it's time for that experiment to end.

New era, New generation, New attitude, im perfectly fine with the current Jerseys. Current players already live up to so much expectations, putting them in the same unis as legendary 49ers just wouldnt be fair. Let the current team and its current crop of players, establish their own identities and history. I personally love the ability to look back and have the certain uniform take me back to the golden era. Going back to the old ways would rob me of this in the future.

every team updates their uniforms now and then. so what is the big issue with the ones we have now? Theyve been worn for almost a decade, whats the big deal? The old unis were defined by montana, rice, clark, craig, all the greats. The white pants ones bring back memories of Young and '94. So we try to back to those, when they are set in stone as our "Hall of Fame" uniforms. Lets define the ones we have now, make our current ones famous and rich with history.

Any athlete who feels too much pressure putting on a uniform with championship history, we don't want on our team.

You may want a "New Generation", "New Attitude", but I was fine and proud with what the 49ers were about in the 1980's and most of the 1990's! Most fans around the NFL would kill to have the legacy we have with the 49ers organization....THE LOOK Of A CHAMPION!!!

I can see where you're coming from, but for me the 49ers are more than just the uniform. Its about the passion and the love you have had for this team. I too am proud of our legacy, but I want to also celebrate the 49ers of today. Quite honestly if the 49ers would have won atleast one superbowl in the current jersey, this would not be an issue. Most people would be out here posting how we have established a new legacy with the new unis. Because that hasnt happened IMO people want to go back to what they were comfortable with, the majesty, the glory days. And simply want the old jerseys back in hopes that, by doing so the team all of a sudden becomes a perennial Super Bowl contender or atleast feel some of that energy of the past.

Good post. Regarding the helmet, I think Krueger's referring to the addition of black outline to the "SF" within the oval logo, which occurred in 1989. Prior to that, the "SF" was just white letters on red background.

It's not the clothes that win the games...it's the players that do! The days of the bright RED uniforms have come and gone;it's time now for the deep red and gold unis to earn their place in contemporary history!

I LOVE our regal burgundy and gold uniforms. The black adds emphasis and contrast--like an exclamation mark! I would not touch the helmets. They are beacons of majesty and cannot be improved upon. No team's helmet can compare with ours! You can always pick out the Niners in any NFL film--just by the helmets. Yesiree, our 49ers' uniform wins every contest--hands down!
