How come Montana did not provide commentary on any of the America's Games show?
He would have been great on the 81 Niners and the 88 Niners shows.
Was he too busy or does he hold a grudge against the Niners?

From the ones I watched they stayed away from the big name guys and went with some of the lesser known guys. That is nothing against Montana but it nice to hear about the game from someone else that we haven't heard it from before.

My thoughts exactly,he should be on any of the 4 SB winning team.I heard he had a grudge against the NFL that's probably why he wasn't invited to do commentary.:bubble:

Tonight I watched the 1981 season and Super Bowl on the America's Game segment of NFL Network. The narrators were Ronnie Lott, Dwight Clark, and Randy Cross. I think they are considered pretty big names. Montana doesn't seem to want to do things for the 49ers; I guess he is still carrying a grudge because Walsh, Eddie DeBartolo, and Siefert chose the younger QB over him, considering his age and tendency to injuries.
Watching the 1981 season reminded me of the time period we have been in the past 2 years--very similar. The team had not yet reached the peak of perfection, but the one golden nugget they had was the brilliant planning of Bill Walsh. That's the main difference from today's comparative season.
You have to remember that Walsh's first 2 years were disaster, too. It wasn't until 1981 that the team sharted to show improvement from Bill's brilliant calls. And Rice wasn't on the team yet.
I was surprised that for the Draft in 1981 (?) Bill ditched all the DB's the 49ers had (except 1) and drafted 3 rookie DB's. He sure knew how to pick talent!
I'm glad I watched tonight's "America's Game: 1981 Season" because it helps give balance the struggles that the 1979-1980 teams had versus the 1981 huge improvement. The reference to those 3 years lends new hope for our current team and season.

If he has a grudge against the NFL why did he appear in that interview with Deion Sanders on the NFL network during Super Bowl week?

it seems to me that Joe stays away from the game. i just really think it's out of his system. i'm sure he loves football with a passion and watches everything about it, but as far as far as being a part of PRO-FOOTBALL, he's done.

It was a standard interview and he plugged a website dealing with cardiovascular health.
I assumed he did the the interview to plug his heart awareness book.
He did not sound pissed off but he mentioned how he missed Sundays and playing football.
