He's wearing #82.....Not good 'ol 81. Check the 49er roster.

Side Note: Clements is wearing #22, Lewis #32, like we speculated.

Why isn't Taylors # retired already?

Why isn't Taylors # retired already?

probably the same reason Brent Jones and Roger Craigs numbers are not either....maybe sometime down the road they will be.

Weak, I thought he'd be going with 18. But I think the rule was something like you can only have teens # if all the 80's are taken.

Why isn't Taylors # retired already?

...because he was a good #2 and we still need #'s for players to wear.

Weak, I thought he'd be going with 18. But I think the rule was something like you can only have teens # if all the 80's are taken.

The rule is you can take any number you want in the 10-19 or 80-89 ranges (provided it's not already taken or retired.) But, once you choose a number, you can't change it unless you go to a new team.

It used to be that you could only get a 10-19 range number if all the 80-89s are taken. (That's how Keyshawn Johnson got his 19 in training camp and he was allowed to keep it.) But they've since relaxed the rules and allowed 10-19 to be fair game, and that's why you see a lot of players getting those numbers, like Plaxico Burress with the New York Giants, Roy Williams at Detroit, and Randy Moss in Oakland, among others.

Why isn't Taylors # retired already?

Because if you retire every number for a player that was decent, you'd have no more numbers.

Number retirements should be saved for THE ELITE players on a team that did something. It should be a high honor that is second to the Hall of Fame, and in all actuality, you should be in the HoF to earn a jersey retirement.

Fans who have seen JT play can probably agree with me when I say this....we will probably never see another player rock the niner #82 better than JT did. The superbowl memories, the punt returns, and all the great catches, as well as his relationship with the fans. It's just too bad that he may never reach the HOF. He was the best #2 WR to play along side G.O.A.T. Clayton & Duper is the only other duo I got the chance to see that shares that same plateau.

Then again...I hope Lelie proves me wrong.
