The Scouts Notebook latest mock draft

Matt and Tommy (the guys who run scoutsnotebook.com and are actual scouts) are probably the 2 guys I respect the most when it comes to the draft.

To clarify about them being actual scouts, while they aren't scouts for an NFL team, they professionally scout high school and college players for scout.com. I know Tommy has been doing this for a long time and was trained by an actual NFL scout, and I believe Matt has been a scout for a while as well. Anyways, just wanted to let people know that they aren't just some random self-proclaimed "internet draft gurus" like most of the stuff you'll find on the internet.

I like our picks for the most part. Not a fan of Booker in the 3rd, not because Booker isn't a good player and isn't worth a 3rd, but because I think if we address RB at all it will be on the 2nd day.

* I know it is kinda crazy to take Calvin 1st overall, but he is the highest rated player and Al Davis is an unconventional owner. There is a chance the Raiders get a quality veteran QB. Could Al Davis pass on a guy that big and that fast?


* Quinn to Tampa was tough. We just felt it was too good of a player to pass up, despite Garcia and Simms. Trying to get in Jon Gruden's head is very confusing.


* I know a lot of people don't like AP to the Cards. Edge looked awkward last year at best. I would not pass up on a franchise RB for a veteran who is on the decline.


* Why did Levi Brown fall in this mock? Is he a starting LT or a RT? Could go top ten, but could should go around 15-20.

Interesting. There's a few picks I don't agree with, and there's a few that look like my mock.

Yeah, I think it is pretty interesting as well. Here are my thoughts on some picks...


- Definitely don't see how Levi Brown could fall that far. I think Nolan/McCloughan would be salivating if he even made it to 11.

- I don't see AZ taking Adrian Peterson. True, Edge is no spring chicken, but I think that team has way too many holes to fill (most notably on defense and along the offensive line) to draft an eventual replacment for Edge with their 1st round pick.

- Not sure how well Jamaal Anderson would fit in Miami's scheme.

- I have doubts Joe Staley lasts until the Cardinals 2nd rounder.

- I don't think Tony Ugoh drops to the 3rd round.

- I don't really like the Booker pick. I like him as a prospect and think he could make a nice change-of-pace back at the next level, but he isn't going to be very helpful if Gore were to go down. Our running game would be in shambles if a combination of a couple scatbacks like Booker and Hicks with a 3rd down back like Robinson were forced to take over the load. We need a true backup RB who could carry the rock 20+ times a game. That's why I think we would take Michael Bush over Lorenzo Booker.

- I think the following are all too high: Trent Edwards, Jay Moore, Scott Chandler, CJ Gaddis, Steve Breaston, Quincy Black, Dwayne Wright.



But yeah, Scouts Notebook is a good site. I am registered on there myself.

yeah, not bad... but i have the same issues... no way brown falls that far and peterson to the cards doesn't really make sense...

I'd be stunned if we picked RB in the 3rd. Too many other need areas. Maybe with one of our 4th round picks but definitely not in the 3rd. Rather see a DB or OL, or LB with our pick in the 3rd if indeed we go DL, WR with our first two picks.

if posluzny dropped that far it would be great if we moved up a couple of picks but im not complainin with rice either

If we did trade up to #6 and switch picks with the Redskins who do you think that we'd take? I was thinking Landry, Branch or Brown but other "gurus" seem to think that we'd go after Adams or Anderson if we traded up. I personally think that we should go D-line 1st but then again maybe a good pass rusher at DE or LB really helps our defense as well-Banta-Cain, Moore and another good pass rusher sounds pretty good.

I'm taking Branch of our list-he has the size and he's a pretty good athlete but he just doesn't make enough plays and have the stamina to be a good fit for us. If we trade up I'd be psyched if we got Landry, Okoye, Brown or Adams, if not then one of these guys if they drop or trade down a few picks, take Carriker, Willis or Bowe (who I think would be the best option for us at WR).
