View Full Version : 1st RD pick NOT A WR

Mike Nolan will not draft a WR with the 11th pick in the first round. I can't believe so many people think the 49ers are taking a WR there. It WONT happen. It's going to be a defensive player. I expect a WR to be chosen in the 3rd round. Calvin Johnson is going to go to a scrub team like the supposed "stud" WRs always do and have average numbers with someone like charlie frye throwing the rock (braylon edwards).

I'm just tired of reading all these other posts about which WR we're picking in the first round. What type of WR?? Deep threat? Midget? muslim? possession? It's not going to be a WR.

Well you never know man... whatever Nolan and Scot do ill stand behind hem for it because I know that they know what theyre doing, so im not at all worried... unless they draft a punter in he 1st round...
By the way.. Whats wrong with midget WR's... My cousin is a midget and he was always wanting to become a WR but he cant because of a deformity in life?
That just brought a lot of memories I never wanted to remember...

Can we sign one of the Gold Rush as a WR? Maybe linebacker?
The Gold Rush Rules!! :go9ers:
Actually, I'm not even worrying about. Nolan's the man and I'm sure he'll make the right decision.

I didn't say it couldn't be a midget. I listed a midget as a possibility. Warrick Dunn is pretty close and he does ok. I just dont think we should pick a WR in the 1st round. I say stock pile on D, There's a lot of talented WR's in the draft. Just wait til the 2nd or 3rd.

Robert Meachem baby.
Didn't he win the main event at the World Series of Poker a couple years ago? Oh yea, I say pick him if he's still on the board in the 3rd round.

We need 2, & we will draft a receiver at the #11 pick, prefferably dwayne jarett, & all you 49er fans who are opposed, once you here mr.usc's name called for the 9ers, just sit back & relax, we'll take it from here! :coolgleamA:

IMO we draft Dwaynw Jarret or Calvin Johnson which will probably not be there at 11 in the first round and then go with ILB, or DE in the second. My pick for the second round is Anthony Spencer.

Dwayne Jarret's too slow for a deep threat and won't be able to use his 6'5 frame in the NFL so much because he's like a toothpick. Havign said that, if he's on the board in the 2nd round (unlikely) take him.

what you don't want to draft a Wr with the # 11 Pick?!?!?
OH come on... and then in the 08 and 09 drafts we can select WRs with those first rnd pick too. It worked for the Lions... who do they have again??? oh yeah the great Roy Williams, Mike williams, and the best WR out of the bunch... Charlie Rogers. :dootdoot:
Plus I think we learned our lesson with Rashun Woods (cough) Sucks (cough)

I would be quite pleased if we drafted "the great roy williams" at 11. He was in the probowl last year for crying out loud, go watch some football games before you rant on.

I think we'll draft K Mason Crosby at 11 ahhh cause Nedney is getting up there and well we'll need a kicker at some time in the future.:banana4:

Thats a first a 220lb toothpick, what kind of crap do you have to have in your mouth to use one of those?

There are 2 obvious holes on our team. DE and WR. Personally I don't think DJ is worth the #11 pick. I don't think he's much better than what we already have(Lelie/Battle), and neither of them are worth a high 1st rd pick.
BUT, is Carriker a better football player? Does he really have that much more potential?
There are 3 or 4 DE that could be here at #11. Is one that much better than the other?
DJ is the 2nd best WR in the draft.
I really don't think we'll take a WR at this spot, but who knows. I don't think there's that much of a difference between Carriker/Branch/Okoye/DJ in terms of being a football player.
If we take a DE with #11 then we'll probably end up with Meachem or Bowe in the 2nd.
I'd be happy either way.
As long as we get a replacement at the GAPING hole at RT we'll be OK.

Well...he's not a toothpick. He's a big physical receiver. I remember he made mince meat out of Michigan's Leon Hall. This is the same guy that proved UCLA wrong about him. They didn't want to offer him a scholarship for some dumb reason which I can't remember. But he's a pretty strong worker from what I hear. He may be a little slow, but if he works hard and runs crisp routes, he'll be able to succeed. At least I think so.

Gee, I had a typo! :francis:
When it comes to Carriker you are FLAT WRONG. After his combine his stock fell. Any person that pays attention to the off season would know this. Do you?
I'm gonna need a link to that one bud. His weight lifting numbers are incredible.

why would you want jarrett at 11 when you can pick him up in the third round. dl first round, wr in the second bowe, meachem, hill, ginn jr. lots of good receivers this year so dont waste our 11 on wr other than you know who.

Neither Meachem nor Bowie will be on the board in the 2nd round. The worst position on the 49ers team right now is wr, well take a wide out with our pick, Meachem's our man

We can get good value at WR with the 2nd round of the draft with Jarrett, Bowe, Rice, Ginn, and Mecheam one of them is likely to fall to us in the 2nd round

You really think he will be their in the third. im pretty sure he will be gone late first round
i think they will take the best avaible player ,who fills a need.could be a weird draft.

The 3rd is definitely an exaggeration.
Late 1st seems right. Jarrett just doesn't really fit the Niners needs at WR right now. He's not a legitimate deep threat. However, he's a great fit for other teams looking for a reciever early.
I doubt he makes it to #42. Even then I wouldn't exactly be excited to hear his name called.

we might take a receiver in the first round just not at pick 11. we could trade down to 20 with the giants so they could draft willis. then we could draft possibly meachem if he was to fall that far. would most likely be a guy like carriker. but if he is off the board a 20 or he is there we may still trade up for a guy like jarret. i know a lot of you dont like him ut i see his separation ability as = with joe jeravicious(sp) of which nolan wanted for the big receiver to make alex's job easier.

Is the talent level that much different from 1st round to 2nd/3rd round for WRs in this draft?
How much better is Meachem/Jarret than 2nd rounders like Hill/Rice or 3rd like Williams?
I like the idea of getting a WR early this year, but I am not sure the talent drops that much in the first few rounds. We might just be better off dropping back a bit for Carriker and gaining another 2nd where we can get our WR and ILB.
