Jack Tatum should be indicted on some sort of manslaughter charge. Doctors said that quadrapligia were contributing factors to why he died so suddenly.

Why would he get charged with manslaughter? It was an unlucky hit.......then again I havent seen the play but I highly doubt he pulled out an Uzi and opened up.

Dude wow what a stupid thing to say, it was a hit. Thats what they teach you in football to rock the other guy so he'll be scared.

Thats kinda silly, dont you think?...In that case, the Bills punter should sue Sean Taylor for assault after that hit in the pro-bowl...Its an unfortunate incident but football is a collision sport, injuries are part of the game...

This is kind of random, but i remember seeing an interview with Jack Tatum and he basically said that he didn't really care that he crippled this guy, he was talking about how it was his job to patrol the field, make big hits, and show the other teams to not come back. He said that he wasn't sorry at all because he was doing his job.
I just thought it was interesting because you can look at it either way, yeah he did mess up this guys life, but he was doing his job or he should feel horrible becuase he screwed this guy over
In my opinion it wasn't wrong of him to make the huge hit, but i just don't see how someone can not feel remorse for the guy
Yeah, from what I've read, it was never considered a dirty hit but was considered excessive for an exhibition game. More importantly, Tatum's attitude speaks for itself. He may have been better off being a mercenary than playing football.
Good article also on Fox:

I think what many are talking is not tatum showing some compassion while he was still a player (that would've been nice) but after he retired.
Jack Tatum was the master of dirty hits. I saw that video which left Stingley paralyzed, and it's gruesome. He would never get away with all the ish he pulled in today's NFL world.

i dont like Jack Tatum, he was a dirty player. even though that hit was clean he shouldnt of tryed to take a guys headoff on a Exhibition game.

and then to try to profit from it makes him a real scumbag.
Doesn't make it dirty. Half the players from the old era couldn't do half their moves in today's game either.
Umm....then what would!?
Chuck Cecil hitting with the crown of his helmet at all times.
Simply because it's prohibited today doesn't mean it's dirty. Being able to man up on a WR and chuck him out of bounds without a PI callled every other play was something the older guys were able to do. A wr then had to really be talented to get open. Now the rules **** near force Zone on every play. Does that make man coverage the way Deion,Darrell Green and loads others played it dirty?
The rules are just more safe now and days. Don't tell me you're advocating against that.

To my knowledge, the ONLY legal assualt on another person is in organized sports. Now if it was something like when Tyson bit Holyfields ear off, well then that could be an assualt. That wasn't within the guidelines of the sport.
The only sport that walks on the border line on a daily basis is ice hockey. I don't see how Tatum can be charged with anything.

Some of you guys really need to do a little more research before you pop off about a guy.
Tatum has said that he is sorry for the injury but not the way he played. Would you guys like Ronnie Lott less if one of the people he hit had become permanently hurt or died.

He never called him even after he retired, never spoke one word to the guy. His book speaks for itself. Research? Practice what you preach much?

Tatum has said on numerous occasions that he tried. I can't remember where but I have read even more detailed interviews with Tatum about this subject but this article touches on it briefly.

Indeed his injury was tragic. Nonetheless, he fought on and never let it beat him. That's called indomitable spirit. RIP Darryl. Go with God, my brother.

They were supposed to meet around the time Tatum's book came out but Stingley didn't want anything to do with it because he felt it was just a publicity stunt.
Here is another interesting article.
