I'd rather have Davis than Hawk, but if Davis isn't there I'd be thrilled to get Hawk. Either one would be great for the 49ers, but if we go with Hawk we'd have to find another target in free agency for alex smith because I don't believe that TE pope or lewis would be able to take the spot from EJ.

I agree completely, if we cannot get VD then we should stay away from the tight end position altogether (unless for a backup in the 4/5/6 range).
None of the other TE's would upgrade over EJ.
If Davis is gone then trade the pick to Minny and go from there.

they should be flexible and not be dead set on any player...hopefully Leinart of VY will drop to 6 and we'll be able to trade down at most 5 spots and still get a great player...if we don't get VD then we'll get a great TE in the 2nd or 3rd round (using the pick we get for trading down a few spots in the 1st round)

if both VY and Leinart are gone, we probably won't get much value for trading down and we should take VD or Hawk...

one of those 2 scenarios should unfold...

Wow, it's fun to look at what people said way back. Now to look and see if their predictions were right. This draft isn't as predictable as the 2005 and 2006 drafts were. Even ast year we all knew we would go after Willis if he fell, but didn't think about the Staley trade. Now we have almost no clue as to who we will get. Probaly because we have such a low pick in the first round.
