I think that was the right move on his part. He would have a better staff in Seattle but who knows how much longer Holmgren will be there for. He also has a much better chance of unseating Delhomme than Hasselbeck.

It doesn't change the fact that the Panthers are on a major decline.
If anything, this proved it.
Old defense+limited offense=Crap.

Not quite. It's not like he played abysmal this past season. They could have made the playoffs if he wasn't injured.

Old defense? Since when? Kris Jenkins is still only 28, Peppers is 27, Richard Marshalls 23, Ken Lucas is 28, Dan Moran is 28(he needs to be able to stay healthy), Chris Gamble is 24 and so is Thomas Davis. That's 6-7 potential starters 28 or under. The only old guys on that defense are Mike Rucker and Mike Minter(who might be questionable for next season considering he tore his acl late in to the season). They might want to add a Free Safety through the draft, and maybe some linebackers, since they lost Chris Draft, but they still had one of the better defenses in the league(7th in the league behind NE, #4 in pass defense and 9th in points allowed). http://www.nfl.com/teams/schedule/CAR/2006 They lost too many close games last year. 3-4 points was the difference between a 11-5(or even 12-4) and 8-8. They need to go back to the running game by pounding the ball with DeAngelo Williams and Deshaun Foster. They had one of the best running attacks in the league that year they went to the superbowl. If they can get that going, along with smart play from their qb, they should easily be a contender.

I see this as a match for "The Man's" rear end.
What's funny is Carr's contract still expires before Hommey's.
Should make for an interesting TC.

Well he's never been Peyton Manning or anything, but he's always been a decent quarterback.

I didn't watch every game that Carolina played by any means, however the ones that I did, and against Cincinati specificly, it was Delhommes critical mistakes in the 4th that lost them the game.
Also from what I hear on Sirius from Carolina fans, they say it is relatively common for Delhomme to make those mistakes late in the game.

Definately Agree.
I second that.
Aside from the obvious struggling Delhomme, the Panthers haven't really committed to a future franchise QB. So Carr and his agent put him on (probably) the best case scenario.

I think it's a good move. I think Carr will probably benefit from some time on the bench. He seems shell shocked after playing with the texans. In carolina he has a chance to sit for a bit and then step in if Delhomme struggles. To me this was the best place for Carr to go.

I hope Carr turns it around in Carolina, I always thought he was going to be a great QB in the NFL and it never happened in Houston. Hopefully a change of scenery will do him good.

I don't know why Delhomme has stayed this long. Chuck it up and watch Smith (or Muhammed for a year) come down w/ it, then go off into a world of overthrows, underthrows, pick 6s.

Good luck to the NFL's modern day version of Rob Johnson, the incredible self sacking QB. No way he beats out Delhomme. DC doesn't have an ounce of intangibles. He will make a top notch reserve guy though...family guy, doesn't rock the boat and throws safe hitch passes only. Won't kill your team by forcing the ball, but he doesn't make many plays...he just has no intermediate passing game...at least nothing consistent.

I don't expect Carr to unseat Delhomme in camp, but I expect Carr will start somewhere down the line if Delhomme struggles in the least bit.

Neither did Steve Young in TB, and you wouldnt either if ya had to get the ball out in under 1.5 seconds. Carr is certainly to blame for much of his performance but putting the entire onus on him when the organization never protected him, i think is a bit much.

Well, I've seen every single game and have all the games recorded, all 75 of his starts....He has gotten protection and still cannot make plays. Kubiak said that he sacked himself an inordinate amount of times without assigning a sack to a lineman or a back...so I do have a different pov. Some of you guys that just scan the stat line can't see that he can't make plays on 3rd and 8, doesn't know how to read defenses...still, and completely melts down in any pressure situation. Take away the times he added to his sack count and he was middle of the road in being sacked in the NFL last year.
Good luck to him, but I've seen that dog and pony show...he has a million dollar body and a ten cent game.
I want to see him do great, just so I can see the expressions on Texans fans' faces.

True. But this was only one year. I mean this is the same guy that lead them to a Super Bowl what, three years ago? I don't think he's played that bad for the organization to go out and sign someone like David Carr to compete for the starting spot.

That was last year... his first few years he was being destroyed it was on his offensive line. You throw any rookie behind a line like that for his first few years in the league and it's going to damage them. He became completely shell shocked.
I think some time to sit back and watch someone else play will do wonders for him. I think he'll see what having consistent protection can do for a qbs confidence.
I want to see him do great, just so I can see the expressions on Texans fans' faces.

The Panthers lost like 5 or 6 games when they had the lead in the 4th quarter. Delhomme made way too many critical mistakes in the 4th quarter. That's what makes me think that Delhomme will be unseated as the starter.

Isn't that about the time most qb's have to throw the ball? Sage Rosenfels looked pretty good when carr was benched against Tennessee. Carr was sacked 4 times and threw 0 tds and 1 interception before being benched. Roselfels came in and was sacked a total ZERO times, and threw 3 touchdowns and 1 interception(while going 18/25 for 186 yards).
The same would have happened to Young, some of you need to realize the importance of decent line play.
Carr actually had some playmakers on his team though. Like Domianick Williams and Andre Johnson in years past. I thought it was mostly the line's fault at times too. But last season it was evident that he had his chances to make plays, and his still didn't deliver.

very interesting, good move on carrs part also. I have a feeling he will be in as a starter at some point this season. Is weinke gone?
Now they have a quality backup, and now maybe we can see if carr really is capable of being a pro bowl QB like I have argued and some of you have argued for and against with me in the past. I like Delhomme though, and I have a feeling this season will be his last in carolina should carr start at some point.
Had carr gone to seattle he would probably not unseat hass, but I would have liked to see how he would have done with the hawks if hasselbeck got injured again.
well good luck to david and to jake delhomme as well

I believe Carr will get another chance while with the Panthers. I would hav to say, he was given his chances in Houston but they werent the best given chances. Heck, if I was sacked that many times in my first couple years of pro, I would be scared to even hold the ball or step and throw. IMO, I would have to blame the Houston organization with his failure to be successful. Like his first year, 76 sacks. That would change lots of qb's opinion and hope in the oline.

Seriously. 4 or 5 seconds is a life time to throw the ball. Even Bledsoe would be the MVP in the league if he had that amount of time to produce.

If he's not, I will question John Fox's mental health.

neither qb had any kind of talent around them starting with the o line i can still remember tb fans booing young off the field ,thought it was quite fitting when young won sb it was in tampa .Maybe the same will happen for dc in houston how fitting would that be and then just walk around reliant with some cali hat and raising the trophy that would be so hilarious .

Less talent at tail back????? Brown, Henry, and white were worse than anything you guys had in years past? Williams was great when he played which happened rarely and other than him no back has ever produced on that roster.
