View Full Version : Joe Thomas falling out of the top 5?

That would leave Arizona, whose offensive line has been its Achilles’ heel for years, in line to draft Thomas. It’s a possibility. The way we hear it, however, Peterson is considered to be a much better prospect by the Cardinals than Thomas. Despite the large contract awarded to Edgerrin James, which was heavily front-loaded and would not set the Cardinals back in the salary-cap area if they were to part ways with James next year, it has been proven that a two-back system is needed to thrive in the NFL, and the Steelers’ system in which Ken Whisenhunt was groomed strongly favors a multi-back approach. Furthermore, James’ age clearly began showing last year, and he no longer has the bounce in his step that he once did.
Ultimately, the Bidwill family is expected to make the final decision, based on the input from vice president of player personnel Rod Graves and head coach Whisenhunt, and should ownership overrule the selection of a runner, it is Levi Brown, not Joe Thomas, for whom the new coaching staff has taken a stronger liking. The ideal situation at that point could be to trade down. However, with the Falcons and Dolphins both in need of a left tackle, the Cardinals could not move down far if they wanted Brown, and the even bigger issue would be finding a trading partner that would allow them to move down.

the Cards could really luck out and get Thomas without moving up. that sucks.
Or we can luck out and have Joe Thomas be Robert Gallery II.

I think that's a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

i am scared about that too. they problem is that they are always going to get a good player witha top 5 pick.
whether it's thomas, AP, Adams or even Landry that is one guy that i don't want to face 2x a year.
hopefully they either have to trade up and give up a lot to get thomas or take brown at five and waste talent

considering the low bust rate of tackles over history, i'm going to doubt that. i hope a team like TB snags him right under their nose, that would be great
Well there have been recent busts like Mike Williams, Leonard Davis and the previously mentioned Gallery.
It's wishful thinking obviously, but hey, it is the Cards we're talking about!

i still think its early to judge Gallery but i like where your head is at and i hope your right. i would have no complaints if the Cards just sucked forever
They haven't let you down yet! Lets hope they don't start now!

I would jump for joy :split: if the Cards take Peterson. He's an injury waiting to happen while Thomas would protect Leinart's blind side very effectively for a decade.

Thomas is one thing but i'm more scared if they get Landry
Good point. Wilson-Landry duo would be scary to face twice a year.

Yup, I'd rather they took Peterson then Thomas or Landry.

I really see ARI moving their pick to NE so that NE can get Landry. WAS is balking at deals, and seems like they're getting the better deal by trading with CHI. Meanwhile, ARI could land a top corner (which they've never had) in Samuel, and still keep a first round pick.

NE's not going to give Arizona both their firsts for Arizona's 5th.
He meant Samuel + 28 for #5 which I'd do if I was the Cards. They could land Joe Staley at 28 or the OLB they need. Maybe Beason.

Polish the glasses, and read what I typed again
Where did I say that NE would give up both 1st rounders? I said Samuel and a first round pick. But, hey, thanks for playing, you can pick up your free T-Shirt at the counter on your way out.
