I was just lying down watching NFL Network when a report that the Niners and Browns have contacted the Lions about a possible trade for their DT Corey Redding. Redding is their franchise player this year. I could not find a link so I hope someone can get it and post it.

MORE TRADE TALK

Chicago free-agent linebacker Lance Briggs is hardly the only franchised player drawing attention from other teams. So is Detroit Lions franchised defensive tackle Cory Redding.

Within the past 10 days, the San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns have made overtures to the Lions to see what it would take to sign Redding, who has been absent from Detroit's minicamps.

However, the Lions maintain that Redding is untradeable -- the same term one GM used to describe Johnson. But it's not going to dissuade other teams from continuing to try.

As the draft creeps closer, the Lions could find themselves fielding more phone calls about the player who is unhappy about having the $6.2 million franchise tag slapped on him.

Comment: Matt - what do you make of Schefter's report that we have made an inquiry into trading for Cory Redding? I'm assuming we are dangling a 2nd round pick?

Response: Over at the 49ers, they're saying the report is off base. --Matt M.

Matt Maiocco said that report was untrue.

Didnt he say that the report about trading for the number 2 pick in the draft was not true? If that is the case, then the trade for cory redding is still a distinct possiblity.

Whatever.

I just want to see us get the lombardi trophy. Whatever McNolan does, I'll be rollin' with them. At least not when Nolan called a field goal on that 4th and inches.

if we do somehow pick up Redding, that would mean we could eliminate Alan Branch from the list of players that we take at number 11.....off base could mean 2nd round pick is too high or something else may be in the works...A trade would be the only way we get him since he is a restricted free agent...

from foxsports.com:

NFL Network reports that Lions restricted free agent DE Cory Redding is getting some attention from other clubs. The Browns and 49ers have inquired as to his availability, but the Lions are saying that he's untradeable. As a restricted free agent, a team could sign Redding to an offer sheet but would have to provide a pair of first-round draft picks as compensation if the Lions don't match the offer

that's what I thought of off base.. it would be nice to see him on our team

A pair of first round picks? I have to say that there is no way we do that. The only way we do something is via a trade ...

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the San Francisco 49ers have inquired about Detroit Lions DL Cory Redding, but were told he was not available.

Even though I doubt this will happen... it could be possible that we trade Smiley and possibly a late 4th or 5th rounder for Redding. But does Redding fit the bill of a 3-4 NT? IF we were to aqcuire him, I bet he would be flipped to a DE opposite BY; this would surely open the door for us to draft Patrick Willis! If that is the case, I am ALL for it!

he's more in the mold of a BY...he's 6'4 and about 290ish....I sure if the 49ers were interested, he probably would fit in, just not a NT type Branch would be on our team.

Why would the Lions be looking for a Gaurd? They have two VERY expensive ones on the books right now one of whom they just signed. Their line problems are at Tackle not gaurd. Redding though would be a DE in the 3-4.

I dont think so. I am seriously dobting this whole idea, but if I have to entertain it for the purpose of discussion, I think it would open the door for an offensive lineman before it would an ILB. We cant get stuck having to replace three starters on the O-line next offseason.

We don't have to draft an O-lineman in the first round in order for them to be a solid player. Between this year's draft, next year's FA period, and next year's draft, I am sure Nolan and Co. will have the o-line issues worked out.

I would rather have Jenkins than Redding if were going to play 3-4.

Yeah but Nolan said he wont move a player up to draft him for need ahead of a better player available. Both Thomas and Brown will be gone before we pick anyway. Patrick Willis is gooing to be a great player if we can get him. Robert Meachem is intreaging also.

I'm from MI. And I have always thought that the Lions should play a 3-4 with Redding at De and Rodgers at DT and Shaun Cody at the other end. That would be one of the top D-lines in football. I would love to have that D- line. If we did not need a WR so bad I would be willing to give up our 1st 2nd and 3rd rd. picks for that line! And we'd still have our 3rd rd. supplemental pick. But that will never happen.

I use redding as a 3-4 DE with the lions in madden!

Seriously,if he comes at a good enough price and Nolan thinks he can do the job he would be a great way to solidify our weak D line for another year and let us take willis at #11.
