SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The San Francisco 49ers estimate the team will need $160 million in public money to help finance a new $854 million stadium, according to a report delivered Tuesday to the Santa Clara City Council.
The team's estimates fall within the city's stated spending goals. The city has told the team that the its contributions are capped at $180 million, and that cost overruns will have to be paid for by the 49ers.

The City's investment at less than 20% will reap a huge benefit for the City of Santa Clara because in the end, the CITY will own the stadium--not the team.
Its investment of $160 million plus the relocation of its power substation would be its capped expenditure with the 49ers and the NFL carrying the rest of the cost for the new stadium. The 49ers will bear the brunt of any cost overruns due to inflation of reconstruction costs.
Tonight's meeting lasted 3 hours and was extremely detailed it its overhead presentation. My head was aching with so many facts and figures! Most people stayed to the bitter end, despite it being so long and cerebrally taxing...(the chambers were packed to overflowing with interested persons).
I think some people either fell asleep or got the shakes over the numbers because one 49er so-called-fan wearing his SF jacket made a fool of himself by asking questions that had all been answered during McNeil's presentation. If my senior memory recalled it all, his sure must have been asleep to have missed so much of the content of the presentation.
I was embarrassed that he was a FAN! He should have left his jacket on the back of his chair...

As I was leaving the SC CC meeting, Steve Fine of the 49ers P.R. Department working on the Stadium Project asked me to post on the MB the following notice from an NFL Spokesman:
We are pleased that the 49ers have the opportunity tonight to present their new stadium plans to the Santa Clara City Council. The benefits that a community gains by having an NFL team in a new stadium are extensive, both from an economic and a non-economic standpoint.
The NFL and its teams have invested millions of dollars in stadium construction around the country during the last two decades. We plan to continue to invest as a league in stadium projects.

Nope - not gonna happen. I ain't reading those three letters and I'm holding my hands over my ears and singing real loud.
All I know is this deal ain't done and our voice on the matter has yet to be heard. They already said we're gonna see parking taxes and ticket taxes. Add those to the parking fee and ticket prices and I think fans attending the games will be contributing a fair share without those three other little letters ....

Oh, you were responding to Peter...
It was good to see you present tonight, Fred. :dootdoot:
There were a lot of individuals who spoke up when the mike was opened up for public comment. I just wish that some of them had LISTENED when McNeil gave the presentation instead of asking questions that had been answered already in his talk. Besides--everyone got a handout of the whole overhead presenation--if only they would have paid more attention to it (listened) or used their eyes to follow along with the handout.

You are correct. Peter and I have publicly expressed our opinion on seat licenses for years now. I guess he oughta know - being a Raiders fan and all.
And it was good to be seen. Thanks. Sorry I missed the last meeting, but I was in Washington DC that week so I got a good excuse.
And I could not agree with you more about some of the naysayers who stood up to speak. Thank goodness they were in the minority. (I kept count!) I believe there would be even fewer naysayers if they simply paid more attention to the issue and took the time to understand ALL of the facts. As you suggested, it can be difficult, and could lead to headaches. However, I believe it's a worthy effort to fully understand the issue and how it will affect our team and it's fans.
I urge all Niner fans to pay close attention, to study both sides of the issue, and above all else - to keep an open mind in order to help find the best solution for the team and the largest number of Niner fans.

Yeah - I'm not liking it much right now either .... but I'm willing to give it a chance before calling on Larry the Ammo Guy, and loading up the old shot gun. There seems to be more about those three letters that we just don't know about yet..... Let's stay tuned!
