It is very simple guys....Even though we would love to have Hawk, there are other LBs that are really good coming out this year and we can sure pick one up at number 22. Davis is a difference maker and Turner loves guys who can turn a game on a play. Nolan is under pressure to win. Whether we believe it or not I am sure York wants to win now for the new stadium's sake. This year, I am sure York expects at least an 8-8 season. Anything less will be a dissapointment, at least for me. It is a fact that newcomers need time to settle but 1 year is enough time to get aquainted. It is time to show up or shut up. Maybe I am possitive but with Davis/Lawson we have fill the two most important holes....A secondary is only as good as the front SEVEN....GO 49ERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:coolgleamA:

I tend to agree with picking Davis. Smith needs help and the more weapons he has the harder we will be to defend. I know there is an argument of taking the BPA, but these guys are real close in that department. That being the case I feel you should go with need. Being there are other very serviceable/impact LB’s we "could" afford to pass on Hawk.

All that being said, it comes from a fan perspective. I trust that whomever Nolan and staff gets will be the very best for the organization possible. :sflogo:

No

Did he win the Mackey award for TE of the year?
Was he even close in the Heisman voting?
Was he scoring and racking up yards at will against the weak defences Maryland played?

Well it's really difficult to be in consideration for any of those awards when your on a losing team. As far as stats go he had 871 yards and 6 touchdowns which is pretty good for a TE and a weak team. Oh and also the draft is based more on potential than on stats from college.

you could say the same thing about the TE's that your saying about the OLB's, but i agree davis is the best choice.

Im starting to sound like a Davis supporter, but in all honesty I think I'll be happy no matter who we pick w/ the #6..

Here's a list of the 2005 All-ACC team:

Offense
QB - Marcus Vick, Jr. Virginia Tech
RB - Lance Ball, Soph. Maryland
RB - Chris Barclay, Sr. Wake Forest
WR - Calvin Johnson, Soph. Georgia Tech
WR - Chansi Stuckey, Jr. Clemson
TE - Vernon Davis, Jr. Maryland
OL - D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Sr. Virginia
OL - Jason Murphy, Sr. Virginia Tech
OL - Kyle Ralph, Sr. North Carolina
OL - Jeremy Trueblood, Sr. Boston College
OL - Eric Winston, Sr. Miami
PK - Connor Hughes, Sr. Virginia
KR - Darrell Blackman, Soph. NC State
Defense
DL - Mathias Kiwanuka, Sr. Boston College
DL - Manny Lawson, Sr. NC State
DL - Darryl Tapp, Sr. Virginia Tech
DL - Mario Williams, Jr. NC State
LB - D'Qwell Jackson, Sr. Maryland
LB - Kai Parham, Jr. Virginia
LB - Stephen Tulloch, Jr. NC State
DB - Tye Hill, Sr. Clemson
DB - Kelly Jennings, Sr. Miami
DB - Brandon Merriweather, Jr. Miami
DB - Jimmy Williams, Sr. Virginia Tech
P - Ryan Plackemeier, Sr. Wake Forest
PR - Willie Reid, Sr. Florida State

I wouldnt exactly call the ACC weak in terms of Defenses, with FSU, VT, NCState, Miami... and look at all those names of players on the All-ACC team. D'brick, Vernon, Mario, Manny, Kelly Jennings, Jimmy Williams.. It is a BCS conference, and to be named player of the year in a BCS conference tells me that he's a heck of a player.. Just acknowledge that the guy has talent for cryin out loud.

GO GO GOOD GUYS! :sflogo:

Im not denying that he isnt great, I just glanced at his stats and 5 catches a game and 6 TDs didnt stand out to me. (But I didnt do any research so I dont know who to compare him against.)

The way people make him sound he should have been open on every play of the game with 15 TDs and me as QB.

Smith doesn't have to carry the team. With Davis and a healthy Johnson and the development of a running game, and not to mention Allen, the niners need the true west coast style, block with those tight ends for the run then through short outs to them. We are on our way back! Playoffs in three years!

I'm quite happy to acknowledge that the guy has talent, but I don't believe that he is the 3rd coming of the Messiah (the 2nd obviously being St Reggie) and I cannot believe that people have gone from "Oh no, we won't get a top 5 guy, we'll have to make do with Huff or Jimmy Williams or that TE from Maryland, he's not bad" to "Hawk or VD? Got to be Vernon, he's going to change the way we see TEs, he's ....ooooohhhh..."
