The News
The Rams plan to move first-round pick Adam Carriker, who played defensive end at Nebraska, to defensive tackle this season, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "In a crunch, he could probably play every position along the defensive line," head coach Scott Linehan told the paper. "The best thing he does is play the run."
Our View
This move makes a lot of sense. The Rams are set at defensive end with Leonard Little and James Hall as starters and Victor Adeyanju as the top backup. They really need help inside stopping the run, so Carriker will lineup at the "3-technique", which places him next to the nose tackle.

this was the speculation with carriker all along that he would be a 4-3 DT and 3-4 DE

I suspect by game 8 Hall will be the rotational DE and Carriker will be moved into the starting position. He's at DT now imo because Hall is the supposed better pass rusher, but AC wont be handle to handle the rush up the middle as well as some of the guys they have already at DT and he'll be loads better at the DE position with Little as the dominant rusher. I think its a move they have to make at this point but as time goes by they will realize Hall's best days are long gone and he is horrible as a rush defender. Personally I think for what they had on the team it was a horrible pick for them. Love the player, but I think they would have been better suited with Harrell (though you could not have selected him at that spot). They should have shored up the S or OL positions with the value that was on the board at that spot. Honestly, i liked most of the players but in terms of the team they had I thought they were odd selections. Worst draft in terms of team help of the NFC West.

I agree hes the short term fix at DT. They've struggled vs the run for years and they need to bring in some big bodies to clog the middle.
Carriker may help their run D but he wont make a huge improvement IMO. I think he'll kick back out to end mid season.

They're making a mistake. He's tall and light for a DT kind of guy. His bubble is good for a DE, but he's lacking for a DT. Personally, I just see him getting pushed around by NFL guards who'll get up under his pads all day and stand him up. Then the Ram fans will call him a bust and whine. Even though he's being asked to do something for which he's not really very well suited.
