The San Francisco 49ers say that if Santa Clara doesn't pay about $160 million toward building a new football stadium, then the team probably will move its headquarters and training facility.
Team officials on Thursday released a consultant's estimate that 49ers' current headquarters in Santa Clara creates $30 million a year in direct local spending. Today, the city is expected to release its own economic analysis of the 49ers' proposal to build an $854 million stadium on city-owned land near the headquarters.

Let's see now, the 49ers annual lease payments are $23,000 for 11 acres of prime location property.

I'm sure Santa Clara could find a new leasee at a much higher price who would build a new building and bring in a company that would create millions in indirect income also.

IMO, the 49ers would be smarter to re-negotiate the lease to a more current value to off-set the interest lost on the $160 million they are asking the city to pay.

But keep in mind that the money paid by the 49ers and the NFL to to build a stadium that the city will own.

would anyone else find it funny if they moved the headquarters and training facility to San Francisco and playing in Santa Clara?

Read the article. It says the 49ers want the Training Facility close to the stadium--and what you suggest is NOT CLOSE!

My question is how to reconcile the $30 million/year to the $23,000 for land leasing/year. What else is included in $30 million? Is that property taxes? Business license? Grounds maintenance? Buildings maintenance?

Niner Mom  :thud: :cry2:

I would HATE to lose the Santa Clara 49ers Facility...it would take away my access to visiting the 49ers so often. And that's something I really enjoy and look forward to all the time. I would not be able to visit my SONS if they moved their Training Facility away...That would be terrible! Sadder than if they didn't get the stadium in Santa Clara, actually.

SF and SC aren't that far :shades:

Oh yes it is far...if you are talking about how frequently I drop in to the 49ers Lobby to bring treats for the guys, etc. Currently, I am about 15 minutes away from there. OTOH, SF is an hour away--depending on specifically WHERE in SF. Besides which, I don't drive to SF because of the traffic, the hills, and the freeways--besides the distance.

So, it makes a HUGE difference! I go there a lot...

you right it is far if you drop off frequently but for the 49ers wise it isn't

Drummer,

I don't know the answer to your question, but seeing the players on any given visit is MY TREAT. The warm satisfaction I get is my reward, and knowing that with each visit, some new player that didn't recognize me before will now know me when they see me.

That's the honest to goodness truth...I love my Niner sons!

49ers121,

Wow, that's cool that you know them personally

Let's just say that's my goal--to get to know each of them when I see them. With so many new faces every year, it's a challenge! But I'm working on it!

The autographs aren't as important to me as getting to know them and having them recognize me. That's my priority.

Santa Clara is about to blow there golden chance to get and keep the niners.

That would be short-visioned on the part of Santa Clara if they turn down this opportunity to own a $850 million+ asset at a cost of $160-200 million with an annual additional revenue of $5 million rent + other revenue.

The Great America venture (with ~ $5 million/year) is PEANUTS connected to the Santa Clara stadium.

Well, I swallowed my fear again tonight and spoke on behalf of our Niners for 2 minutes. (It's HARD fighting the clock when you speak!) Afterwards, I got a lot of commendations from strangers for speaking up for the team. I hope it did some good; I DREAD speaking in public!

I had one paragraph about the editorial in the Santa Clara Weekly (paper that comes out weekly in SC) which speaks to foreward thinking by the one responsible for the Louisiana Purchase (at a time when the treasury was basically empty), by the SC CC when they bought the Great America Amusement Park (which now pays handsome dividends to the City), and lastly about THIS city council's opportunity with the 49ers stadium.

I had mentioned in my opening paragraph the contribution made annually by the 49ers Headquarters and Facility in SC ($30-40 million), which would be a huge loss to the city if the Organization moved out of SC into another town where its stadium could be built. Originally, the article I got the information from said $30, but in the report tonight, the figure was actually quoted at $44 million. So, I upped my figure by $10 million.

The overall results from tonight's meeting was that the City's independent Study Report basically AGREED to almost everything reported by the 49ers Consultants. That was good news! At least, people can't say that the facts were being pulled out of a hat.

I was happy that Lawyer Fleck was absent tonight, but his cronies were there to do his dirty work for him. Hopefully, our damage control was sufficient to nullify their ill effects.

Why all this LA talk? It's already been said by John York there is 0 intention to even thinking about moving away from Santa Clara and SF to move to LA or anywhere else farther away. This LA talk needs to just DIE because it isn't going to happen.

i tend to see this as a big money ploy, there will be a bunch of reporting in the papers about bluffs from the city or the 9ers saying they holding out for reason X and its supposed to draw attention to the situation, the deal will get done, if not in SC then in SAc or somewhere else in NOR CAL, hey stockton and modesto hev LOTS of land and for **** cheap and i bety you'd find a high Number of fans are already coming fromthese areas to the bay for games any how.

It's not eve news, really. The niners are going to get a stadium somewhere, and their only other leverage is moving their offices to whichever city wants them to sweeten the deal.

It's not like they'd move to punish the city, they'd move to get a deal done somewhere else. It's nothing personal.. just business.
