Can people please stop saying that JNew said we should pick Marvin Philip, or that he would mentor him or anything like that.

He didn't.

The question was "Which player from your Alma Mater deserves to be drafted?" not "Which player should the Niners draft?"

His answer was Marvin Philip and then he waxed lyrical about his work ethic and leadership.

I wish I had as in-depth of player profiles as you do. I'm hoping it goes something like this
1a. AJ Hawk (I really think he'll be there, else, VD)
1b. Marcedes Lewis/Leonard Pope (else best DE/OLB avail)
3. better of LB or DT avail
4. the other one
5. best RB avail
6. best DB avail
7a. better of LB/DT avail
7b. best C avail
7c. best DB avail

Not too bad but you could get Jennings much much later and Bethea will be gone long before the 7th (imo).
I still question why we would take a WR in day one with the aquisition of VD. No reciever in the draft beyond the big three has any chance of making an immediate impact, and the position is quite full as it is with guys we dont know about. Why add one more to the list with such a high pick when you can get almost the same grade WR in the 4th or 5th.

this is how the interview went:
Who are some guys from your school that you think should be drafted?

Jeremy Newberry: Marvin Phillip, he plays same position as me and I know his brothers really well and he’ll be a good lineman in the League for a lot of years. Somebody will get a good center if they take him. Maybe we can take him in the second round and I can groom him for a few years and then he can take over for me when I’m ready to shut it down. I’ll teach him all of my knowledge but I won’t let him take my job!

now...he said he'd groom him. and he said we should take him. what are you talking bout??

I don't like the idea of taking a Wide out this year on the first day, and even if we do it better be for a more dedicated return specialist than an actual guy who will be seeing time opposite Gilmore and Battle next to Hamilton and Bryant. For most of the wide outs in this draft they are project players and would require at least a year longer to develop into solid players than some of the blue chippers from last year would have taken.

Don't see Gordon or Hopoi being at that pick.

Thanks for player rankings link. Back in '04 I found a good one that ranked the top 100 players and a bunch of honable mentions. In '05, you had to start paying for that kind of info. I'm hoping increased competition will make that information free again.

I changed my mind. They should go
1a. Best DE/OLB avail
1B. Best DT avail
Trade all their #7s for Minn second second-rounder, or Denver's second second-rounder and pick the best TE avail.

The version of that interview that I saw didn't have any of the "take him in the second round" stuff. It stopped at "Somebody will get a good center if they take him".

I tried to check the new site, but it crashes when I try to access any link on it, so I can't get at any articles on there.

Ahmad Brooks OLB Virginia 6-4 252 4.65 40 (supplemental draft) 2nd rnd

Vernon Davis, could be the most valuable player in the draft, bar none....any team ahead of us may take him. He is way more valuable than A. J. Hawk. Why? Because during any season he can win more games for a team than any defensive player you can name...defensive players might help you not lose a game, if you have the lead, to get the lead you depend on offense, not defense. Since we have no offense, Davis is the best choice as the BAP on offense.

Edit: Oh! If, Davis is gone at No. 6 Trade our No. 6 and our 4th No. 100 to Minny for their No. 17, 48 and 51. I know it isn't an even trade, we must make them pay a premium
