No. 6 49ERS: Denver wanted to trade up to get the guy the Niners love, VERNON DAVIS, TE, MARYLAND, the 250-pounder who can run a 4.38. But the Broncos couldn't find anyone who wanted to move that far down. Yes, the Niners confirmed that Davis is the highest player on their board, but hey, they have to face the Cards' Boldin and Fitzgerald twice. Ditto the mob of St. Louis receivers. So they'd better find a wideout somewhere. Which they will, at No. 22 in the first round, after trading to get Denver's spot.
No. 22 49ERS: Cornerback, as I mentioned earlier. The best one remaining on my board is JOHNATHAN JOSEPH, SOUTH CAROLINA. Say, it just dawned on me. Nobody's taken DeAngelo Williams, the explosive runner from Memphis. That's odd.

I did a mock draft last night that had VD at 6, and DeAngelo at 22. This isn't the draft I would prefer (Lawson), but I think once we get to our 22nd pick, the BPA is DeAngelo. Lawson, Cromartie, and likely Carpenter will be gone by that point. I don't think we're sold on the interior lineman available, nor Wimbley, or the remainings corners/safeties.
Nolan pulls the trigger on DeAngelo, and we focus and trying to find some defensive sleepers for the remainder of the draft.

i cant see us not taking a linebacker in the first two picks....that position is probably our biggest void on defense and we need to address that with some early picks, i really like what im reading about chad greenway and i think if he is there at 22 we have to grab him, and thats with us taking vernon davis with our 6th pick.....
Perfect.

Chad Greenway in a 3-4? That would be cute.. I mean he struggles shedding blocks, isn't strong enough to play OLB in the 3-4, and isn't anything special as a pass rusher.. Much MUCH more of a coverage linebacker.

TE Davis followed by RB Williams would still leave us with the burden of finding OLBs and defenders with the rest of the draft.
But let's be honest here. If we could go into the draft and walk out with a blue-chip TE, a starting RB, and a 5th round blocking FB, our offense would be in great shape. It would leave us a bit anemic in terms of a pass rush. But it would give Smith an improved running game and TE corps as well as a blocker in the backfield. It means that at worst, if everything worked out, we may need to get another WR next offseason. It also means we may have a very porous defense for the season. But if QB Smith turns into a 80 rating QB in season 2, throws for about 180 yards per game and gets 11 TDs and 16 INTs and shows great signs of improvement each game but we go 5-11, who will care? Honestly, it takes longer to build offenses and if Smith can prove to be gold and we get growth from a strong rookie class, we can load up on defenders next offseason and be one of those teams who jump from 5-11 to 10-6.

Yeah that would be a nice offensive set up but i just can't get behind that kind of a draft. It would leave us too unbalanced... I really do understand the need to get some help on Offense but i think that is why we should take VD, but not going D w/ 22 just seems like we are asking for trouble. Although i gotta admit i do love to watch a great offense :) .
