Silicon Valley Leadership Group Supports 49ers Santa Clara Stadium Proposal

Public Policy Association of 210 Companies Cites Potential Economic, Social and Cultural Benefits of Project

The Silicon Valley Leadership Group today announced its support of the San Francisco 49ers' proposed Santa Clara stadium, citing the economic and cultural benefits the project would provide for the region.

The Leadership Group, which represents 210 companies in Silicon Valley, also noted the team's cost-sharing financial model and commitments to the city and Santa Clara taxpayers in its decision to endorse the project "in concept" while continuing to monitor forthcoming reports, public hearings and other developments.

When will something be final? Is they have a certain deadline for this deal to be done?

That's funny :clapping:

Any final deal in Santa Clara is quite possibly a year from completion.

Right now the team and the city are in the middle of a feasibility study. This means the city hiring civil engineers, architects, economists and similar folk to investigate the financial, structural, and local societal impact of an NFL stadium. The team is part of this, meeting regularly with Santa Clara officials about results and having open discussions in public forums about these matters. The study should be completed in August or September. At that point the council will vote whether to be in favor of or against continuing. If they don't like the overall package and results, then they can turn down the offer on the spot.
Even after that, the city would be expected to perform an environmental impact study. This involves specialists estimating how much water and electricity a stadium might use as well as how much refuse would be created from construction and the team on an annual basis. It would also involve a precursory investigation of the actual land the stadium would be built on. This study could take anywhere from 3 to 5 months but is usually less crucial. Chances are if the city likes the deal in September, it would take a massive surprise to change their minds through this report.
After all of that, it could be in the hands of the people of Santa Clara. A group of citizens seem intent on forcing the final consent of the matter to a vote. Even if the council approves of the feasibility and environmental impact, a popular vote could ban the possibility. It seems such a vote is on the horizon to likely occur in January or early February on the matter if it gets passed by the council after the feasibility study.
So suppose we pass both research studies and the people of the city of Santa Clara pass us through on a vote. Then in come the lawyers and it comes down to finally putting down on paper every detail of our agreement. This sounds easy but a lot of matters such as the cost of our lease with the city and liability issues and other issues well beyond my expertise come into play. It could take weeks to months to iron out an exceptable agreement.

When that agreement is signed, THEN discussions will be done and it will still be another 1.75-2 years before construction begins. Most likely, you can consider the deal final when the citizens of the city vote in favor of the measure. Any failure before or at that point will kill the deal most likely.

Thanks for the update The Wiz.

Unlike the deal that the RAIDERS had with the Oakand Football Marketing Assocciation (OFMA) aka the City of Oakland, in that the City of Oakland was responsible for all short-falls and the RAIDERS only had to share a portion of the profits.

RAIDER deal....City of Oakland had to cover shortages...citizens on the hook!

49ER deal......49ers cover shortages....49ers on the hook!

That's because OAK made big mistakes and Davis was left laughing all of the way to the bank. At the very least, an aging Colliseum looked to cost the city millions to demolish and had no real value left as an alternative entertainment site.

Then came Davis and his team. They were unhappy and desperate to split LA and had to do is ASAP. The Raiders didn't make it known 5 years ahead of time, they moved on it fast. The city was desperate to get something out of the stadium and avoid a problem there. The team used this as leverage. Combined with the public support to bring a team back, city members sweetened the deal to entice Davis and the team back.

Cedar Park, the new owners of Great America as of now are not in favor of the Santa Clara Stadium. This is just one more thing we must over come.Even if the Santa Clara Mayor,Council members and the voters of Santa Clara approve the new Stadium. The building of the Santa Clara Stadium can still be stopped by Cedar Fair. The Niners,City Of Santa Clara Mayor & Council Members must find away to convince Cedar Park to go along with our new Stadium.
