Cadlestick opened to the public in 1960 a remodel would be out of the question a complete tear down would be needed. It doesnt have the easiest access to and from and it was already opposed.

Access in and out of the stadium is dreadful. They need a new site.

Yes, current access is horrible. But tailgating space is abundant. Apparently we'll be forced to compromise one for the other in Santa Clara.

Yeah, I remember when Diann Fienstein was mayor, and she brought that idea up too.

Some 20 years ago.

I don't know how they can just tear down all these stadiums with so much history in it. They should take the entire field, like all the soil, and move it to the next stadium. That way the field that all the amazing moments happened on would stay.

It's unfortunate but a necessity. Think about Candlestick though. It was built in the 50s and immediately had problems with its design. It was built for baseball, a much smaller crowd. We only moved into it in the 70s and the stadium had to be retrofitted with collapsable seats. The site was never meant to last the 45 years it has, with over 20 of those supporting 2 major sports teams. It's the home of great moments but it's a ******* child among stadiums. It was never built to handle luxury box seats or dual megatron screens. Not to mention that the site was never picked for traffic, it was picked for ease of building.

Overall though, stadium building is an evolving field of architecture. Engineers knew very little about building massive structure like that back in the 50s compared to what they know now. Hundreds of massive college stadiums and professionall football and baseball stadiums have been built since Candlestick was born. I'm sure in 30 years even more will be known about stadiums but stadiums are now also built for longer lifespans. They're built with long-term stability in mind along with easy expansion.

The only parks I know of that have survived are Fenway and Comiskey. But baseball parks don't need luxury towers, the ones that have large upper decks rarely sell them out, and you don't need vast ammenities. Fans like to sit in and old school stadium, eat hot dogs, drink beer, and enjoy a simple old school game. Football fans show up with painted faces, spiked shoulder pads, and cheeseheads and like multiple massive screens to show instant replays. Baseball fans pay a lot less for tickets, Football fans who pay much more expect an experience, not just a game. There is something about seeing a game where Ted Williams played that makes you not care about the age of the stadium. Meanwhile, an old football stadium never seems to wear the glory of yester year quite as elegantly.

Ok, so while we're keeping our crappy location and derelict stadium and trying to give it a major facelift, where are we playing our games?

Comiskey's gone... after 2003 they moved into "New Comiskey Park" and Fenway almost suffered the same fate a few years ago before the fans protested.
