Faulk is a lot like rice towards the end nothing left to prove and skills are deminising. It's very sad to watch great players leave the game, but it's even worse to watch them play to long. The rams are at most going to be an 8-8 team and the torch has been passed to jackson. The only difference between rice and faulk is that faulks knees are failing him and rice somehow after 20 years has stayed healthy to the very end.He should retire now while he's still capable of walking away from the game and enjoying all that money he's made.Faulk at this stage he isn't even a good backup and cost too much money to be one. Hope he dose everyone a favor and walks away and gose fishi:fishing: ng

i dont think faulk is that bad....if somehow he could stay healthy that we would prove that he is indeed a good backup and maybe even challenge jackson for the starter job

I used to love watching Faulk play...if they don't cut him let him play on.

I hated watching him play. But thats because he was great and a division rival.

I always wanted to go to a St. Louis football game with a sign that said "FAULK YOU"

Faulk is still good enough to play, but Steven Jackson is younger and the future of the rams so he's getting the carries. Faulk has enough left to play a good season or two, but I can understand he why he would with a smaller and smaller role every year since Jackson has come in.

The difference, IMHO, is that Faulk doesn't mind mentoring Jackson, and knows he's the back up. Rice didn't want to mentor, and he retired rather than be a back up.

There is nothing wrong with great ones hanging around and being part of the team, assuming they understand their diminished role. Doug Flutie comes to mind as someone who was happy to still play, and didn't mind being a back up, and understood he wasn't going to start. He extended his career many years this way.

The other difference is that Rice was still putting up decent numbers in the twilight of his career. He wasn't awesome like he used to be, but he was putting up the numbers that an average #3 WR would get. Faulk has done very little to contribute on the field in the past 2 years, and his numbers have been way below average. If he wants to mentor, then he should retire and look into becoming a running backs coach. Much respect to the guy, but his time has come.
