How old is BY in his NFL years? 14 years? He's younger than BY and has produced more and BY is our starter if you wanna try to pull the "years" card.

Where the hell would we play him? OLB? No thnx. I've heard he's a team cancer.

No. He's a light 4-3 DE and he won't be interested in learning 3-4 OLB at this point in his career. I would expect Minnesota, Detroit and St. Louis to be among his suitors- assuming this rumor you heard is true.

LOL, I wasn't arguing for it. I was saying if someone wants to pull the "years" age on him I could easily do it on BY, but everyone is all over BY because of his "Loyalty" to the team. Not trying to sound mean n all.

i doubt it cause it's two different systems Tampa ran a 4-3 defense and the niners running a 3-4 defense,he would have to play olb which the team don't need.

I don't think that's accurate. He was released because he wouldn't take a pay cut. I haven't heard anything about him failing a physical.

no kidding, rice would be a horrible pickup, not only does he not fit our d, but he would take away from the young guys we have, all for what, a backup spot that would be better used to progress young guys

I don't like the idea, because it would be like bringing in a Lavar Arrington. The guy does what he wants, when he wants to do it. If you don't remember, he was benched the year we beat Tampa because he wouldn't play the system. Bottom line is the guy is a head case besides getting old and we really don't need him. In the locker or on the field.

For the record, I never thought you were "making it up." But the mere fact that ESPN reported it doesn't necessarily make it accurate. Fox is reporting that it was purely a salary cap move brought on by the fact that he wouldn't take a pay cut.

Sign him, just to take up space...he's strong.

If he comes for not much $, why not a 1 year deal?

We don't have much depth at DL, Melvin Oliver's injury weakens us (I really like him)...if we have extra cash...again, y not?

It's a shot in the dark, just like any other FA at this point, unless we have some big plans, and a top seceret FA we're after...than we have money to throw around.

Actually the years card in this case is very valid because there is a difference between already having an older player on the team, and adding another one...

Green doesn't yet have a job for Rice to steal. And Rice should still command enough salary that no one would pay him to be a backup.

Here is a question, And before we start....To all the little message board police that are not mods, that go around the boards and flex their fake authority, we all know you are 40 y/o virgins living in their mother's basement in real life.....this thread is 49ers related and does belong here!

With that said, what does everyone think about the 49ers going after S. Rice and use him just like Allen, to teach the young guys the ropes!

don't think so... since he's a 4-3 pass rushing DE, and wouldn't be able to help our 3-4 DEs or OLBs... plus he'd want too much $$

He did play in a 4-3 system....but just because players play in types of formations does not mean they cant play in other systems! These guys are pros....and its done all the time, from high school and up. Don't get caught up with the ESPN BS of "oh he is a 3-4 player". Hell even our own guys have been bounced around from a 3-4 to a 4-3........P.S not trying to call you out!

Allow me to retort, 1. Its a classic, and classic never get old. and 2. We have to call a spade a spade, these adult versions of student yard-duties on a elementry school play yard, are infact 40 y/o virgins...taking out their aggregations of life out on our posts.

I'm actually not so against this idea.

Rice was one of the most dominate DT's in his prime.

But given the 49ers are not running the same defense, I'm not sure it's the best use of the personnel.

Well, its just that he's around 265-270 lbs. I guess he could maybe pull off an OLB spot, but would he be quick enough? especially in his old age. He'd be a little small for a 3-4 DE. I dunno, it just doesn't seem like something Nolan would do. He wants big guys up front.

The players who often can swap back and forth are 4-3 DTs who are around 280-330 lbs. and move to a 3-4 DE or NT. Or possibly a small 4-3 DE (around 240-260 lbs.) to a 3-4 OLB. I just doubt it would be an easy swap for Rice at his playing size. He'd probably prefer to play for a 4-3 team that'll pay him more than us anyway.
