It is time for the Niners to get that stadium built. The Organization owes it to Bill, and I once again call for the field to carry his name. It can be something like Walsh Field at Monster Park or something like that. I just want it done yesterday.

Unfortunately, the amount of money naming right generate nowadays has changed the situation. It's far more likely that he could have a street named after him or something similar. I'd love to see them rename a section of Tasman to Bill Walsh Drive. It won't happen IMO, but it would be nice.
The 49ers complex is named after some long lost Debartolo relative. It would be nice to see the 49ers complex named after Bill. That would be very meaningful.

Anything to give name and respects to the man would do. Heck, they name the super bowl trophy after Lombardi, maybe name the NFC champhionship trophy instead of MARA of the Giants....dunno, just a suggestion.

Building stadiums takes time. You can't steamroll through municipal approval's process.
As for naming it after him, good luck. Naming rights are worth millions of dollars per year that don't get included in the salary cap or revenue sharing. They really help pay off the debt from building a new stadium. If you give the Yorks 10 mil a year to name it after Walsh I'm sure they will.
Also, only one stadium was ever named after a coach and he was also an owner, and his son is the current owner.
I'm all for anything the niners do to honor Walsh. He deserves it. But once again its easy to sit back as a fan and say the Yorks (who Walsh only ever worked for as a consultant) OWE it to Bill to name the stadium after him, because it isn't your pocket the money comes out of.

Walsh Feild sounds beutifull to me. Although I still perfer Old Candle Stick Park. As an old 9er devote i nether want to see them change their name nor move to a new stadium. I live in Fl. and cannot ever express how precious and memerible it was for me to enter the Stick for the very first time.

What if they just name the actual field after Walsh? Much like how UCLA named the Court after Wooden, but at the same time kept the stadium name the same

How about the "Bill Walsh parking garage(s)" , smoking rubber?

I still say that making a 'BW' or 'BEW' on the sleeve of the 49ers jersey a permanet part of the uniform similar to the 'GSH' on the jerseys of the BEARS.
The 'BW' or 'BEW' will be as significant as the 'SF' logo on the helmet!
The reminder will be permanet. Stadiums get moved, fields get renamed, corporate sponsorships change.

Patience young grass hopper. Patience.
Plans to build a new stadium in Santa Clara are on track and on schedule. There have been no announcements or indications of anysignificant delays. These things just take time......
However, I do like the idea of naming the field itself after Bill Walsh. I don't believe this would prevent the city from selling naming rights to the stadium....

I had made that suggestion before, I use Monster Park just as an example
something like "Walsh Field at Monster Park" or whoever gets the naming rights, I mean what sponser would nto want to be mentioned in the same sentense as a man who made the NFL what it is today. Just look at all the Coaches in the league with ties to the Niners, not even the Dallas Cowboys or the New Englannd Patriots can make that claim.

That better be one HELLAVA garage!
The Yorks don't owe Bill directly . . . but they inherited the legacy he built. They owe him a lot of respect. I truely believe they would acknowledge that fact. I wouldn't say they owe him a stadium named after him though. That would not be cheap!
I've mentioned it before and I'll say it again:
The NFL should rename the Coach of the Year trophy after Bill. Someone start a petition? JOHN, make the call buddy. . . you got Roger's cell.

Build one for the coach. For the one and only.

1) Sorry but no amount of urgency or desire will speed anything up. Any city we plan to build in will ask for time to decide, simple as that. You don't just say "what the heck, let's build a 70k seat megastadium by the airport!" as a city without wondering about things like traffic and city resources.
2) The whole "Eddie would've built a stadium by now" is hogwash. Eddie never even got close to such a thing. He barely got 100M in public support just to largely renovate and remodel Candlestick in a deal with a company so fragile it fell apart around the same time our stadium would've been done remodeling. He got into bed with some dubious partners on our own stadium deal. Secondly, ALL teams go through this. The NYJ organization spent years trying to get locations in Manhattan with several duds before they got a good one and they even have to share it when it's finished. Several other clubs are trying to start the process of getting out of leases and moving within their regions with even less luck than we have. Don't even get me started when it comes to OAK or the AZ organizations. AZ played for over a decade and then some in a college town.
3) If anyone will be naming a stadium it will be Stanford. A place where he was coach twice and in an industry where naming buildings after people is what they do. Stanford can name a road, plant a tall oak in his name, and name the field after him with no risk. Traditions and alumni is what campuses are all about. Not mention, they have a stadium, we're only considering one. It only takes a board of trustees and a meeting to pull it all off. Add into that mix the fact that they do have as much right as we do and it's very uncouth to name something after someone when the name has already been used.
4) There are dozens of ways to remember someone properly without going overboard. Sure, Walsh was a great coach and influential leader and a model human being who led this team to greatness. One can even argue that he was the greatest coach in the history of the sport when his works transcended more than just wins but led to evolution of the game, the sport, and into several walks of life. Nothing says we can't create a "Bill Walsh Walkway" with a lifesize statue on a large marble block as iconic as Philly's 'Rocky Statue' or whatever it's actually called. How about adding a wall inside the stadium in the middle concourse that is closest to the city of San Francisco which lists his football and life accomplishments in gold covered lettering on a red painted wall? Perhaps just as iconic, a plaque in the locker room with a famous saying of his on it players can read and pass on the way out to the tunnel each game. There are lots of ways, especially ones more thoughtful, long-lasting, and memorable than just naming a stadium after him.
A statue or a walkway or a plaque or a few dedicated things last a long time if not forever. Meanwhile, how long did Joe Robbie stadium last? How about Jack Kent Cooke stadium? Names change, icons last much longer. No owner can come in and sell the Bill Walsh statue without fear of a lynching mob. On a college campus, the Walsh Stadium will last for decades if not longer. In the NFL, think about one decade at best before the lure of a 100M+ naming rights contract is dangled in front of an owner.
I'd rather see us get a nice 150M+ naming rights deal and honor Walsh in a more thoughtful manner. Field a competitive team in a better stadium worthy of being a 49ers home and someplace to create something original no owner will touch. I know that I could walk into a stadium named after Walsh and barely think about it with all of the gameday excitement. Meanwhile, walking by a 10 foot high statue of him gleaming in the Sunday morning sun as I walk in, that I wouldn't miss. But that's just me.

naming a stadium after Walsh would be a beautiful gesture but we are a small market team. a small market team who could probably use the money for naming rights of the stadium.
san francisco isn't a small market. it's just that the yorks dont have nearly as much money (atleast i don't think) as the other owners in the league do.

You do know that they are still going to be the San Francisco 49ers right? Santa Clara will be the equivalent to East Rutherford, Irving, Arlington, (future Dallas Cowboys stadium), Landover, Maryland.
